Sprouted Wbs

Yesterday I was short on time and never got a change to PC about 10 jars that I had loaded up with wbs.. Today I grab them to throw them in the PC and I see that many of the seeds have started to germinate. If I PC these I would think they would die for sure. Are these jars one for the bloopers reel or can I still use them?

yea.. they'd die... and the seeds would bust open more too.. makes a nasty mess in the jar.. carbs everywhere.. doing an experiment now to see if exploded wbs is still good as a substrate. one casing from a usvi strain half-pint jar that was 99% exploded- about a week away from pinning.. 6 jars incubated (4 argentina, 2 wild brazil) right now that have about 5% exploded kernal.. only been in there 3 days now.

well its experiment or throw it out for me right now so I guess I will try it anyways, spores are plentifull.

They will likely do fine. Germinated grain is way different than exploded grain. I've had plenty of success using WBS that has just started to germinate. I always rinse and drain well right before PCing. Good luck.

hey, its not a big deal at all. I've done that same exact thing, said fuck it and PC'd them anyway and knocked jars up. Mycelium colonized the grain all the same. spawned it to poo, and had some monsters at harvest.

after you pressure cook, you will no longer see the sprouts :p
