Soaking times for WBS??

I set up a few jars of WBS to soak at 11 this morning. I was wondering if 10 would be enough time to soak them so I could do them at 9 tonight and let em cool overnight or if I should wait til tomorrow morning, which would be about 24 hrs.
10 hours or 24? Any other insight for first time user of WBS?

i liek to soak 16 hours. this causes the bad guys to germinate whereas 24 hours gives me sprouting of the grain itself. peace ohm

No set time (12 to 36 hours works - past that - they sprout @ room temps). Object is to HYDRATE seed/grain to the MAX, without sprouting. Seed/grain expands about 20% with soak. Hot water simmer (not boil or cook) will expand seed/grain about another 5%. To hot/long a simmer will sometimes burst seed/grain. Burst seed/grain cause a lot of starch release that can cause sludge in jars (a bad thing). Ya just have to watch it & learn what works for you.

Adding my 2 cents.
Rye here started sprouting after 24 H, you dont want that. WBS, if I, ME, MYSELF, could say it I would do 10 hours and a 30 minute simmer. Instead of 24 hours. But at lower temperatures you could be fine with 24 hours and then without a simmer.
I soak WBS for about 16 hours and do a short 15 minute simmer and a rinse & drain after that. Not too wet not too dry.
Like agar said, knowing the basics bout sprouting, exploding kernals, soaking temperatures, go ahead and find out the best for you!

Well temps in my house are around 55-60 right now cuz the heater is out, so i think i'm going to let it go 24 and see what happens. Will post back the progress when it happens..

always gotta PC, the simmer is just to let the grain absorb moisture

You should/could be fine since many people use 24 H soak with rye........ Might be bit long for WBS though but we will see!
