definitely looking forward to the rainy season.  It'll be my first, but I think there will be some goodies waiting for me.

Has anyone here ever been to a mycological society or fungus federation and gone on their forays? :cubie:

the season in the bay wont start till mid october. there was actualy a storm report last night about a storm that should be hitting here about now, but isn't. I keep hoping for the rain and it comes, but only for short visits :frown:

leafing where in cali are you? I doubt your finding libs south of san fransisco unless they are stande-alone. (I have found one single liberty cap south of SF, and its the only one ive ever found)

If your in norcal you should be looking on woodchips for ps cyanescens, and ps. cyanofrbrillosa

where are woodchips found? naturally? or strictly man made? I guess trees fall over in the forest and termites turn them into woodchips...

termites turn them into rotten dusty logs which get inhabited by who knows what, probably oysters. In this case your going to need to be looking for the greyish tinted woodchips, or in otherwords hardwood like alder, eucalyptus, etc... (mostly those 2)

Either in parking lots, in parks, who knows.

Theres plenty of photos of cyanescens and cyanofibrillosa all over the internet... your best bet would be to scan through www.mushroomjohn.com and check out all the cyan pics that mj takes, theres cyans at every angle.

My best wishes to everyone in the world :hippie:

And to all the bay area and norcal people: IT JUST RAINED LIKE A BITCH, so those patches are well hydrated and will be colonizing their way up for when they're ready to fruit around mid october (when temps are an average of 45? - 55?).

Yeah, so far there are still mostly summer species out on the range. A nice patch of Agricus californicus with a lone death cap out in front of the homestead.

I'm in Northern California, too and I simply will not accept defeat this time. Last year I started late and managed to find only Gymnopilus, 87% of which contained none, or only trace amounts of tryptamines. (I did manage to locate about 7 specimens in total that oxidized and turned blueish-green). Anyways towards the end of last season I became more aware of locations and this year I will stop at nothing to find as many mushrooms, edible, poisonous, novelties and of course hallucinogenic varieties, as possible. Would really love to meet up with other like-minded people as well, and will surely bring along some home-grown herbs for the adventures. If you're cool and collected from California, hit me up. I'd also like to try hitting up Southern Oregon and possibly Washington. I simply will not be content with just Gymnopilus this season, although they were quite a rare and spectactular discovery last year (albeit I didn't take them).

sierras? im going to paradise on saturday, i know its too early but im going up to do some photography, but ill be sure to check out for mushrooms. I don't think many mushrooms (active ones) would be growing in the sierras? maybe muscaria? they do have alot of pines...

i wish i could take someone out hunting this year but ill be too busy. plenty of places to look though.

There are supposed to be some random showers moving in again tonight. It is still way to warm in the east bay for anything significant to start showing up in my opinion. I might go and check out out the coast and see if the cool temps there and fog drip has helped things.

Here are some pictures of a few finds while hiking in the Muir Woods National Monument this afternoon. Unfortunately it is much to dry to bring out the interesting fruitings.

Pacific meeting Pacifica
Amanita phalloides
Russula amoenolens?
Confused polypore
Unknown
Russula abietina

Thanks, It would be nice if we could get some rain though. I was expecting damper conditions and more fruitings. The dust was everywhere and on everything. The only saving grace was that is was 10 to 15 degrees (F) cooler under the canopy than outside.

The trick question is can you find the second species in the "Russula amoenolens?" picture? There are three fruit bodies in there.
