Air exchange

If i have a jar that has been colonizing for a couple weeks now when should i remmove the aluminum foil from the jar for air exchange?

BRF cakes don't need air exchange. If they are grains, then take the foil off as long as you have a polyfill or tyvek filter to keep contams out.

Well, from what I've read and been advised, BRF cakes do need air exchange. Also, if you have a layer of dry verm on top then taking the foil off shouldn't be a problem. Also, try flipping the jar upside down.

actually this is a corn jar and i do have a 1/4 hole with polyfill in the lid.. so you guys think i should take the foil off today? i mean what is a standard for the foil to be removed i mean once the hole jar has mycelium is that when to remove foil or maybe after 2 weeks after inoculation

should i go ahean and remove the aluminum foil today or is it too early ? the whole jar of corn has mycelium everywhere and is now starting to fill in the gaps bewteen the corn but its slow...

Leave the foil on it will help maintain the jars moisture levels. The jars only need gas exchange at this time, the foil will allow for it no problem, just remember you don't need to press seal the foil just a quick seal is all thats needed. Slow is relative I'm sure your jars are fine as long as the moisture content is right. GL
P.S. you quickest colonization times will occur between 82-84F. :wink:
