I gotta much better answer but your not worth telling.

But somehow I AM worth telling a cryptical non-reply.

No I'm telling you it's against the rules, and you can consider that your one warning. A forum mod will ban you, next time.

Please explain Trendal, what precisly are you warning me that I will be banned for?

Elaborate on baiting/trolling in reference to myself, please.

Your ban is no threat to me.  This is an open site, I will always be able to come back if I desire.

You use your ban threat as a power trip because I disagree with your science belief, good logic buddy!

IMHO the best answer to all these paranormal debates to date is James Randi's One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge which offers a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. To date, no one has ever passed even the preliminary tests.

Thats the same as the science arguement.

Pointless, don't even go there!

Besides, I've yet to witness anyone that can do it at will.

It is (IMO) a spontanious event, like an apathy or a deja vu, its just a random act of our amazing brains.

You claimed diploid was unintelligent simply because he didn't agree with you. You then stated that he should go "read more" before "trying to debate" with you again. That is trolling/baiting, and others have been banned before for similar posts.

This has nothing to do with my opinions on science, and everything to do with the smooth-functioning of this forum - which is why we have rules in place. If you can't play nicely, we don't want you here.

Wrong, simply because (as is evident in this thread) he lied and said that I said a statement I blatently didn't.

Then he dodged when I say show me where I said it.

The irony.

Because current science has no plausible explanation for claims of telepathic phenomena, there can be no "theory of telepathy,"

There can be no theory for telepathy because telepathy has never been demonstrated.

Likewise, there can be no theory to explain how the Tooth Fairy exchanges teeth for money because the exchange has never been demonstrated.

How many times do I have to say this before the mystic types will get it?

how bout you explain astral projection to us then, my all knowing friend, there are things in this world/demension/universe that just cant be explained, dont just say there cant be such a thing because you just dont know alright

as for there being no scientific data for it thats true

how bout you explain astral projection to us then

Oi, I need to write an S&P FAQ...

Let me start by pointing out that nobody who claims astral projection has EVER been able to tell the investigator what is in the next room, what is in a nearby box, or even what object was specifically placed on the roof as part of the test.

Now, I don't deny that people convince themselves that these experiences are real, and here's why:

There is an region in the brain called the Angular Gyrus. It's located in the parietal lobe (top-back) of the brain near where the sense of balance is processed. The AG is larger in hominids than in other primates. It's involved in language processing and particularly with the comprehension of metaphors.

The relationship to OOBs was first found while treating a woman for epilepsy. To localize the source of the patient's seizures, doctors at the University Hospitals of Geneva and Lausanne in Switzerland implanted electrodes in the patient's brain. With the patient awake, they probed her brain to map the pathology.

Stimulation of the AG caused various sensations including "sinking into the bed", "falling from a height", "seeing myself lying in bed from above", "floating", and all the other sensations people who claim OOBs report.

It's believed that electrical stimulation of the AG causes these sensations because it disrupts the ability of the brain to make sense of balance and the sense of touch.

This was reported in the journal Nature in 2002.

Any other questions?

as for there being no scientific data for it thats true

There's no data at all, scientific or otherwise. There are a lot of people who talk a big show, though, but somehow can never demonstrate what all they talk about.

Diploid I must object to that 'logic'...

Another region of the brain, if stimulated, will result in the patient smelling the scent of burnt toast. (Yes, it's from an old commercial about the early stages of neuroscience research... bare with me...)

Does this mean anytime someone smells burnt toast it's just a hallucination?

I mean, there can be no such thing as 'real burnt toast smell' then, because a certain brain trigger can give a patient that response.

But clearly this is foolish. It is a trigger that causes the patient to undergo a natural ability of their mind (the perception of the smell) without the real-world cause.

Astral projection could very well be the same thing. It could be an actual metaphysical escape of the body. If this is the case, either that stimulation of the Angular Gyrus reproduces some of the effects of OOBEs such as the floating feeling or others (and those are the _minor_ ones... numerous reports indicate transcending planes of reality, floating amongst divine entities, travelling the physical reality as a non-physical entity etc..).

Or another possiblity is that that region of the brain IS activated during OOBEs and in a sense allows whatever conscious energy attached to the brain (soul, w/e) to temporarily detach. What makes a brain-trigger devalidate a commonly perceived experience?

Now I'm staying impartial on this. I've never had an OOBE myself, but I've read a lot on them. I'm just saying, from that evidence alone, you cannot logically jump to the conclusion that all OOBEs are make-believe. That they are products of the mind with no physical (or spiritual) basis.

THAT is pseudoscience

Your argument would be valid except for one major point that I think you overlooked:

The OOBErs themselves made claim to be able to see real physical objects at a distance. This has never been demonstrated.

What about spiritual dimensions, the location of most OOBE accounts I've read.

Naturally, those are untestable by physical means...

Not that that in anyway validates them either...

Diploid I must object to that 'logic'...

What about to the logic that EVERY SINGLE PERSON studied throughout the history of scientific study of OOBEs had been summarily unable to tell the investigators what is in the closed box by the door, what is in the next room, what is on the roof (all objects placed as part of the experiment)??

This also applies to near death experiences in hospitals where the patient comes back with memories of seeing nurses and doctors walking around in the halls as they left their bodies (no duh, they know they're in a hospital so what else would they imagine) but not one single patient has been able to report what page the book in the next room is open to. :syringe:

If OOBEs were ever shown to be anything more than lively imagination secondary to anoxia or AG stimulation, I will be the first person to jump for joy at clear evidence of an afterlife.

Meanwhile, I will not kid myself even if the fantasy is a pleasant one.
