Has anyone tried growin Pan Trops without manure?
I was thinking of honey water tek, then rye berry substrate, cased w/ peat moss.
Has this been trie before? Is it absolutely necessary to use manure?

I've grown Pan trops on straight straw that has been pasturized in a hot water bath with good results. Compost does however seem somewhat less contamination prone.

Rye works but the size of the mature mushrooms is very small. Only a few printable. Numbers are high, but the size is extremely small.
I.E. works for consumption, but not printing. They are a pain in the ass to harvest, due to small size.
Everything happens quickly!!!!
You can get good results with sterilized Manure(store bought) mixed with ryegrass seed and perlite or vermiculite.
Increased size, printable. There is a formula for the measurements on this site somewhere.
I just use 1 cup manure: 1/4 cup rye grass seed: 1/4 cup perlite, adding moisture until it is at field capacity. Mix in seperate bowl , bring moisture up, fill Quart jars, pressure cook. Innoculate, and lay out in trays, case with very thin layer of peat:perlite at field capacity.

I've heard stories of success without manure, but I believe you're going to get the best results with manure. Also, I've heard that increasing the humidity to above normal levels can increase the size of the caps and help make more spores for printing. (I think thats on the pan cyans page at sporeworks).

Overly high humitidity and too little air exchange will result in small twisted mushrooms with very small caps.

What about overly high humidity with plenty of air exchange? Or did you mean that both result in the same thing?
