Cultivated chanterelles
    #4488371 -

Hi, I have about three pounds chanterelle mushrooms. I know they can not be cultivated indoors. If I were to somehow grind two pounds of low quality fresh specimens into, say, ten pounds leaves and forest debree, and then let it sit in my backyard for weeks, could I create my own patch of chanterelles?
Has anyone ever done this? What it is the best method... help!

The most reliable method is to transplant the tree that is already carrying the fungus.

So if there is a small seedling near a sporocarp, then I would transplant that. If there isn't a small enough tree to transplant, then you could take a seedling not near a colony and transplant it to the colony. Give it a few years and transplant where you want. IIRC, Stamets talked about this method.

But if you want to grind up your mushrooms, you'd be best planting in the root zone and on the roots of suitable trees.

Here are some links I found on google.  There are some web pages about cultivating microrhizal mushrooms:

http://www.ehow.com/how_12124552_grow-chanterelle-spores.html
http://www.fungi.com/mycotech/permaculture.html
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4488371

Paper versions of these publications could probably be found at a university science library if you don't want to pay to download:

Or, you could contact one of the farms that commercially cultivate microrhizal mushrooms with questions:
