coco fiber resists fungal growth?
    #444952 - 11/02/01 04:19 PM (23 years, 1 month ago)

has anyone used the "down to earth" brand of coco fiber? its from euegene oregon. it says that it "resists bacterial mold and fungal growth" although it also says that it is "weed and pathogen free"... so do you think it will work as a casing, do you think it has a fungicide additive or no?
my friend is probably going to try it so i will post the results but if it isnt going to work thatd be nice to know beforehand...
thanks.
-daniel.

I spoke with "Down to Earth" and they stated there are no additives. They said that label was put there because its just the nature of coco fiber. Perhaps it is resistant to most fungus, but not mycelium.

coco fiber itself doesn't have any nutrition in it that a fungus can begin to grow in, but it works as a casing because it holds water well and promotes an even pinset.
