**HeGz Coco Fiber Tek**

Ok kiddies, here is my coco fiber tek: 1. Soak @3 cups of finch seed in warm water for one hour. 2. Drain 3. Add 2 cups of vermiculite, 2 cups brown rice flour, 1 cup ground wheat or rye berries. Mix well. 4, Test moisture, if it feels dry, slowly add water (not more than one cup) until mixture barely sticks together. 5. Fill your jars with mixture. 6. Pressure cook at 15 psi. for 45 minutes. 7. Let jars stand at LEAST 4 hours until cool to the touch. 8. Innoculate jars and let colonize 100%. 9. Fill bottom of casing container ( I use tupperware containers that are approx. 6 x 11 and 2 inches deep) with 3/4 inch of moist vermiculite. 10. Cut a chunck approx. 3 x 2 of Gro-Brick coco fiber, make sure it's Gro-Brick, (comes in small 2 lb bricks, @2.95 and large 10 pound bricks,@19.95), place in bowl and cover with water. Let sit for 15 minutes. No sterilization required! 11.Crumble enough cakes so you have approx 1/2 inch deep layer of crumbled cake spread evenly across casing. WIth my tupperware containers, I have been using one one pint cake and all is working fine, but you may want to use more. 12.Mix coco fiber with your hands, making sure that it gets broken up and is VERY moist 13.Place a 1/2 layer of coco fiber on top of the crumbled cakes, squeezing SOME, not all, of the excess water as you go. You don't want it too wet, and not too dry either. Pat down so you have an even layer. (The next step is experimental, but is doing wonders for me) 14. Sterilize a fork with alcohol or a flame. Let cool. 15. "Drag" through the coco fiber later and make it nice and "fluffy". 16. Cover casing with Saran Wrap, make sure it tightly sealed. 17. Poke 10 - 12 holes in the Saran Wrap. 18. Place in dark warm place for 7 days. 19. Place in Terrarium and begin to fan (twice daily) and give 6 - 8 hours of light daily. A few notes. If you see the coco fiber becoming a light shade of brown, this means it is getting dry, so LIGHTLY mist. If it does get fry, which RARELY happens, it's usually around the edges of the casing. In this case, I have left it alone, with NO problems. My terrarium setup is very basic, 18 gallon tupperware container with 2 inches of moist perlite on the bottom. As for later flushes, I have been deep scratching after the first flush and re-applying a THIN layer of coco fiber. Re-pinning begins in 3 - 5 days. Any questions? PM me!

Hey HeGz, I know you have the experience, but like I said in the love the stuff post", I think you should sterilize the stuff 'cause you have no way of knowing who touched it while in the store/warehouse and/or what it had been exposed to on the shelves. It seems that w/ all the work put into the jars it'd be a shame if som'pin' nasty touched, your brick landed on it, whatever,b4 u got it. Maybe your bricks are plastic wrapped, but the 2 I picked up had a paper wrap leaving the ends exposed. And I'm positive someone in the store must have picked one up to examine and then pet it back down again. Better to error on the side of safety. Look foreward to your response. Want Coco fiber grow bricks? Having a hard time finding vermiculite? Well not anymore. www.homeharvest.com

Awsome Hegz. I have some jars that were inoculated a few days ago. If all goes well then I will get 100% colonization, then I might try this tek. I might sterilize it because it is possible that it is contaminated from someone touching it. I am also considering the sea of shrooms tek. Anyone had luck with this? Lucky me, I just got some coco fiber a few days ago. Not for shroom casing but for my reptiles. I like varying the substrate in their tank so I switch from sand, to carefresh, to cocofiber just for the hell of it. Looks like I dont have to go buy one now.

Okay, maybe I wont sterilize then. I guess since he said to ONLY use gro-brick and gro-brick comes wrapped in lastic then it doesnt need it. I was thinking that maybe some aren't wrapped in plastic, but now that I think about that...

All the Gro-Brick brand I have purchased has been sealed in plastic. I have never had contams of any kind using it...

I got mine( "c-o-c-o f-i-b-e-r g-r-o-w b-r-i-c-k") from homeharvest. It has a "paper" wrap around it with the ends exposed. So "some brands are and some aren't." would have been a correct response. I know what I bought. Just like you know what you bought. Peace.

I said"This is my coco-fiber tek", NOT "this is my substrate.Teks are different in their own way. I think you're being a bit petty bro!

No, not being petty at all. So, you came up with this coco tek? I have been around a long time and my friend learned to use coco fiber from McMan and Karl Brooks. Now since those guys are no longer around these parts they cannot "help" people with coco. I agree 100% with you that coco is the shit, but I won't go around saying I invented it.

I think alot of thread followers think that coco fiber is from coco when it's actually cocoNUT fiber, naturally able to hold a certain amount of moisture while not being open to foreign bacterias.

Plowking, The GroBrick brand coco fiber is a nutritious, moisture holding, bacteria resistant casing material that is cheap and does not deplete the pete boggs. It is a superior casing material.

I'm not quite sure I understand the significance of coco fiber - is it simply an alternative to verm, or does it actually result in higher yeilds? Is it less prone to contams? Why so special?

khufu, Coco fiber is used only as a casing layer. All of the above reasons make it a better casing material. The biggest advantage is that it colonizes very fast because it adds nutrition to the substraight layer. On a casing, this will usually colonize in 1-3 days rather than the 7-10 day norm.
