casing with coco fiber

OK afoaf took a couple of 9x9 aluminum pans and crumbled about 2 1/2 cakes into each. He says it was about 1.5in deep of substrate. Then cased with moist coco fiber that had been soaking for about 30 minutes. Just enough to barely cover the mycelium underneath. He then covered with foil and placed them in a dark moist place for a few days. After 3 days he removed the foil and added more moist coco fiber where the first spots of mycelium had began to poke up to the surface. Recovered with foil and left for another 2 days. At this point they were moved to the fruiting chamber which is just an 18gal rubbermaid container with perlite and misting for humidty. The lid is cut open and a piece of plexiglass was installed in the top sp light could get in. He sat the chamber in a place where it could get indirect sunlight in the day. They have been in the fruiting chamber with no signs of pinning now for 4 days. How long does it usually take for pins to appear after being placed into the fruiting chamber. And what would be some reaons why it wouldnt fruit at all? He may be worrying about it too much but he doesnt want screw up his first casing. Sorry if this was way too long? Im really high and ranting

4 days really is not very long, you might well wait another week before pinning begins, if everything goes well.

Relax and waite for them to fruit on their own. Mist and fan but do not fuck with your casings or you are sure to have problems.

Another casign which was a few days behind these ones were ready to be put into the fruiting chamber today. My friend decided to try to cold shock this casing just as a comparison to the others. Ill post results

Sometimes with coco fiber, its takes a bit longer to see pins, but it will be well worth the wait.

I was hoping you would reply to this on Hegz. I followed your coco fiber tek on this one. Seems everything is gonna work out great. You should write that up because that is the only formal coco fiber tek i could find. Thanks

Pinning usually takes 10-14 days from what I've observed. But before the pins you will see white dots, hyphan knots, as McMan said.

Tom, do the hypal knots look like little white balls on the surface of the casing? If so they just appeared the last time i checked my chamber.

Well McMan, thats exactly what im looking at minus the pins. So it looks like everything is going nicely. This is my first attempt at casing but i sure love coco fiber.
