The new Georgia Psilocybe(15 pics)
    #431713 -

Went out and found a few more today, picked about 70 total specimens so far. I'm getting ready to send a few dried specimens in, but I'm certain who exactly I will send them too, haven't made up my mind. I'm trying to figure out what it takes to publish a mushroom, or atleast co-publish, not to sound like an egocentric, but I'd like my name beside the species if it turns out to be a new species. I would also like to name it. I'll have to do some checking around and see what I can find out.

I will be conducting a self bioassy when I return from Talladega tommarow, will report back after the experiance. I suspect them to be highly potent given the bluing reaction and relation is macroscopic appearance to other highly potent species.

I'm going to write up this mushrooms description later tonight, will post it when I'm finished.

Here are some pics from todays pickings....

Can you ID those 'shrooms? Man, I swear that I have seen those same 'shrooms growing in southern Kentucky! (well I did LAST YEAR!) Awhile back I was stupid enough to think that they were Liberty Caps.

If they are the same as what I found last year in a lawn in southern Kentucky, they are a damm good trip!

(hey you gotta crawl before you can drive the space shuttle!)

Wow man, those are cool as fuck, they've got some mad bluing going on as well.
What kind of habitat were they growing in?
I saw a lot of moss in the pictures, do they like moss?
Are the easy to spot?

I hope you do get to name it, that would be bad ass. You'd be a myco-superstar of sorts.

Peace out,
-Gumby

I was thinking that too. Sort of a cross between Liberty Caps and regular cubies. I found something very simulair last year in a yard in southern Kentucky. I thought that they were Liberty caps for months, untill I started visiting this site more often. Liberty caps are known to be in Europe, not the US. The ones that I found were in a freashly fertilized (organic) yard. Now, I'm not saying that I'm certain... but the sure as heck looked a lot like these pics here. I spent months trying to ID them... never could. However, they were very much MAGIC.. hehe.. damm I should of gotten a print.

Thanks everyone :)

Gumby, they are hard as hell to spot :) and they do sometimes grow out of moss, but not exculsively. The biggest thing about this habitat, is the sandy soil. Its redclay kinda, but very sandy, and they like it :) Also under weeds, I'm not sure which kind, but so far I only find them under tall weeds, but that could be because they provide the only shade around. They are also grwoing around grassy areas, but not from grass. Kinda of a weird habitat really, I try and get some pics of the soil and the general habitat tommarow.

Going to much em down tommarow night, will report back :)

Awesome that you've found this interesting species, LK!
They kinda look like Ps. pelliculosa, man. Knowing your photography keeping the real picture, I'll have to say that look alot beefier and have more of a deep-green-type look to them, vs. Ps. pelliculosa, though.
It's very mind-boggling, considerng the diffs in temps between GA and PNW! You know how mycelium can be really grumpy and demands the comfort-control! Hehe!
I dunno, but that's a friend-mushroom, LK! They know us like we know them, man! That's just the harmony that's arrousing in the mushroom-mushroom people quest for life!
Mr. cyans really spoke for me in that last sentence, bro! :)
Hehe!
Stay cool!-Levi7.

I know exactly the type of soil you're talking about, and I know I've seen it, I just can't remember where :P

Everywhere I go that I think has the right kind of soil is covered in rocks. Is the soil that you find these in very rocky? There is a lot of the flaky reflective rocks and quartz in the soil that I am thinking of.

Do you find many blackwidows in this habitat? The place I am thinking of has a blackwidow under every rock/log.

Peace out,
-Gumby

The habtait that you describe fits where the 'shrooms that I found too. Yea they were in a yard, but they were not directly in the grass. They were growing in a bare spot of ground about a half a foot froom growing grass. I'm very serious when I say that the more I look at those pics the more familar they look. I will never forget others telling me that Liberty Caps dont grow here, and I keep wondering "what the fuck" they were 'cuz I knew that I triped hard off them. Shit who knows how many other strains are out there that havent been discovered yet!
