pre-packed grain jars
    #4152739 -

I am looking for some pre-packed jars to replace the grain mycobags i have been using. I know mike's is a good jar vender but I heard that brf is shit compared to grains. If this is true then I would likr to know if there is a reputable store that sells prepacked rye jars or wbs jars.

I know your not supposed to post sources here so PM me if you know anything.

LOL........."YET".

Rumor has it, there will be inexpensive pre-sterilized quart sized Grain and/or WBS disposable spawn type containers (other than bags) sold -sooner- than - later that has a micron filter/patch on the lid & you inject straight through the lid, then tape the hole over.

The problem with anyone selling pre-packed grain jars is you need a flowhood or at least a glovebox and the experience to use it properly to work with grains. Those folks who would buy the grain jars probably do not have a flowhood, thus they would fail an unacceptable percentage of the time. It would be a lose-lose situation. The vendor would do a great job, but the customer would feel as though he got screwed.

I don't mean to argue - the point. But, your statement confuses me.

If a pre-sterilized grain jar, with a filter patch & injection point landed at my door & I had a spore syringe.

In a sanitized bathroom (or, any clean CALM air circumstance), I would simply pull the sheath off the needle, wrap it in an alc soaked cotton swab, swab the lid injection point, insert the needle (still swab wrapped)into the container, inject, withdraw the needle & tape over the injection point.

With that method, the injection point is sanitized, the needle is sanitized & remaims sanitized throught the injection process. I have done so, into wbs/grain jars hundreds of times (even -on a clean kitchen counter, without problems).

So, why is a glovebox or flowhood needed to inject a grain/wbs jar?

The same holds true for spawning. I have dug out colonized wbs/grain from a fully colonized jar & mixed it into a pasturized bulk substrate in a sanitized bathroom, without a problem.

Unless, you call this result a problem.

I do all my work open air too, inoculations and grain to grain transfers, spawning, casing, ect. No flow hood and a glove box is a pain to work with that crap in, or anything except printing and syringe making..

I'll third that, no glovebox needed for grainwork, a small hepa, lysol, and hand sanitizer work wonders, but im sure you could get by with even less! Buying anything pre-sterilized seems senseless though for anything besides a one-time small operation. Most wal*marts I've been to sell an 8 quart PC for 35$, I have two, they suck ass but they get the job done.
