after getting high and writing a few scripts, it came to me that they can just ban anyone for any reason.  This is not a democracy, this is a privately owned website.  they can bring the ban hammer on to anyone who voices a complaint.

but what stops them?

what stops them is they don't wish to have any major disruptions. (such as we have seen today with hanky's banning)

But what they should consider is that if they ran "their" website in a less tyrannical way, there would be far fewer such disruptions.

perma-bans should be for legal reasons only. Regular/less-serious violations should have a 1-2 week ban cap on them.

that's like getting the death penalty for shitting on the sidewalk.

I normally try to stay out of these kinds of things, but I do think the banning was a bit of an over-reaction. Granted I don't know the whole story, there could be more to both sides, but from what I saw, it did seem like a bit of an overreaction.

Of all the offenses he could have committed, this is relatively minor, and even if it happened a number of times, he's a valuable member of the community...I would think no more than a few week ban would be logical.

Here's a thought: put it to a vote, see what the general consensus is. I for one would be willing to go along with whatever the majority votes for.

There is a system about how long the ban is.

Fist time: Warning

Second time: A few days ban.

Third time: 14 days ban.

Last time: permanent


That system sucks. It should be and could be more like this..

With permanant bans given to those who deal drugs on the server, hack the server, or commit other serious violations meaning violations that could ammount to actual harm to the website or its members.

Wouldn't that be a much more enlightened sort of policy?

All you are doing with the "system"  :thumbdown: you have now is showing that magic mushrooms havent helped the administration here any.

Well, I'm sure pris wasn't asking if he should go delete all the grow puppets.

The main issue I have is with the perma-ban thing for relatively minor/trivial violations.

Of course, no-one should be allowed to run around here with 8465285 identities either.

well here's the issue with that, gum_clinic/loki/paid/ganga, you_suck, Geordi
and many of the other people that post here will then be banned, half the
people I have banned were people that I like, I've actualy resisted banning
several that I dont like on may occasions just because of the drama that I
know will be started, "you didnt like XXX so you banned him".

I hold some people to a little higher standard than others, those that express
that they dont like me I expect certain behaviors out of, those that claim
to be my friend I expect better from, if they have any respect for me then
they would not put me in the position where I felt a ban was in order.

Hanky has always shown me respect and a great deal of consideration, you guys
dont have a clue how much it does bother me to ban him for something that I
dont see as being offensive, unfortunately other do see it as such and in light
of that fact, I'm obligated to handle it out of respect for those users.

It's such a fucking joke that he is banned indefinitely. As was stated earlier, permabans should be reserved for those who actually harm the site.

A permaban for something as petty as his actions were is absurd. There's absolutely no logic behind it.

Especially when you consider he did not post scat and that he genuinely didn't think the chicken picture was a bannable offense considering some of the other OTD content.

It doesn't matter anyways. No matter the amount of times a user is banned for scat, it should never reach a permabanned.

The admins system of banning is fucked b/c it doesn't take the triviality offense into account.

I believe that we should all live in a society without rules and laws,
a self governing society, unfortunately some people are unable to govern
themselves and ruin it for other people.

the administrators, they set guidelines on disciplineary actions, the guidelines
aer simply being followed, the 'indefinate ban' is not necisarily permanent,
much of it depends on hanky and the rest will lay on our shoulders, how we
behave in this situation will have some bearing in the decision making, it
works the same way with rules, they dont start making rules unless someone
decide to do something thats quite disrespectful, threats are a prime example
if no one had ever made one, the rule wouldnt be in place.
