Should BRF cakes smell like this?
    #4132992 - 05/04/05 02:00 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

My PF cakes smell a wee bit sour... They still smell like BRF (kinda like porridge or something), but they smell a little like feet.. I have 20 to 50% colonization. The mycelium is totally healthy. there is no sign of contam, I'm just wondering if the humid conditions makes the BRF smell kinda sour?

"A dull gray to mucus-like brownish slime characterized by a strong but foul odor variously described as smelling like rotting apples, dirty socks or burnt bacon. Bacillus makes uncolonized grain appear excessively wet, hence the name "Wet Spot"."

My jar doesn't smell strongly, and the mycellium seem very healthy. There's no dull-gray or mucus-like slime.
How do PF cakes normally smell when they're colonizing? Does psilocybin mycelium have an odor?

I don't trust any kinds of smells.

Should the cake smell how it smelled when I mixed it up for all of colonization? Or is some change of odor normal?

It still smells pretty much the same.. And the mycelial growth is vigorous and healthy...

There is a slight change in odor but nothing should smell "sour"...I don't think.

It's a tad more sour, but it still smells like something I would put in my mouth...

I've notived this same 'sour' smell on my current batch of BRF jars. I've never noticed it on prior BRF jar runs. Their a week in and showing signs of myc growth, but Im kinda doubtful. Im just gonna wait it out and see.

Yo, my cakes smell like a mix of boomers and pina colada. Are there any contams that smell like that? Should I be concerned? Should I serve them with a little umbrella?
