this chick is trying to rip me off on craigs list

first off i posoted in the houseing wanted section, and now she or he or whatever is tryingn to pullone of thise cashiers check scams. i.e. due owes me $3,500 ill have him send you the cashiers check and then you can take out what you owe me and send the rest to my account in bumble fuck

ohw do i go about getting this phony check seems like i should try and waste their time and money, and get them busted if i can.

heres the correspondanec so far

basically this chick is trying to rent a place from me., im not renting a place im listed in the places wanted section. she is offering to send me a $3,500 cashiers check from her last modeling job and that i should cash it and send her the change.


obvious scam. so now she wants my name and adress, im not sure what this is for, the cashiers check or to steal my identiy....... either way im tyring to fuck with these people and either cost them lots of money or get them busted.

I wouldn't exploit them or get them in legal trouble...thats exactly what they are trying to do to you... :shrug: Sometimes its ok to just politely decline while informing them of their shady nature, eh I guess I am old fashioned

These kind of scams are all that exist on Craigs List, it's notorious for them.

Anytime I post anything for sale on there, thats the only kind of offers I get. Some jackass in some foreign country saying they will send me a cashiers check way over the amount you are selling whatever for. It's funny I just send them a nice rude email right back.

She's probably in some third world country, far from any jurisdiction zippoz can access anyway. I doubt Nigeria would extradite him/her.

I believe her when she says she is from nigeria. I believe that is where most scams of this sort originate.

I wouldn't even bother dealing with people like this, and you don;t have a room to rent in the first place.

there are alot of scams from people from 3rd world countries.

my favorite one is the old :

My name is such and such.
I need your help getting money from my fathers bank account in the USA.
Both my parents died in a terrible accident...here in Africa.
My father has so many (can't remember exact #) million dollars in this account.
If you help me get my money I will pay you 1 million (US) dollars.
All I ask is that you send me $100,000.00 (or whatever amount) so that I can pay some bills and buy a plane ticket to the USA...etc.

Am I the only one here who can't comprehend how this is a scam? I'm sure it is....but I can't see how it is. They send you something. You are not sending them anything. How can you be ripped off?

The only way I can see if you could be ripped off is if they manage to steal your identity or something.

P.S. You know what would be really funny? Try to pull an obvious scam on this person. Like, "Well....I want to rent this place to you, but the property is in lien court because of back taxes. My dad died and he was rich. I will be inheriting a lot of money. While his estate is waiting to be settled, I can't afford to pay the taxes. Can you send some extra money so I can do this, and once my father's estate is settled and I get my money, I will pay you back plus interest."

It is a scam because she wants to send him a fake cashier's check which the bank will cash, but when it bounces he will be responsible for the funds while he has already wired her the money. If people were to wait to see if the check cleared, then wire the money if it did it would be fine...but the checks never clear because its a scam, and a lot of people get taken in.
