Canadian Microbrew Thread
    #4067259 -

thought it would be fun to put together a thread for people to voice their favorite tasting Canadian micro brew.

i got lots of faves.  ill add some pics next week when i get my cam back.

heres the deal.

must be brewed in canada, can be sold anywhere.
trying for taste here, so disregard alc % and price.
must be a micro brew.  and must be available off premise (ie. no just buying it at the brewery).

think that covers it.  not necessarily going for the best or anything.
if you have tried it post.  mention what sort of beers you normally liek so we can have something to go on.

i myself am a fan of darker lagers.  i also enjoy darker ales as well.  i like all types of beers, but darker is my pref.

ill start with some of my favorites.

Vancouver Island Brewery.
hermans lager    one of the best imo.  darker heavier lager.

victoria lager    lighter than above.

ones i find bad:
Pipers Pale Ale.  like sour water.

------------------------
Granville Island Brewery
Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale     this IS my favorite ale!  damn i liked it.  i make special trips to vancouver cause the liquor stores here only carry a couple types from this brewery.  and to visit the sister (she has a fridge ).

island lager   good.  bout sums it up.

----------------
Big Rock Brewery.  i *just* found a store that carries a good selection from this brewery...and its only a 4 hour drive

grasshoper wheat ale    i really like this beer, for an ale.  its probably one of my favorite actually.

Warthog Cream ale   i liek it all except the after taste.  pretty good but not great.

---------------
Misc Breweries.

Nature Land, Organic Lager   ok for a hippie beer.  certainly not a dark beer.  if you like lighter stuff that doesnt make you puke from preservatives, its a good one

my mom brought me back a 40 a year ago from out east.  i think the brewery is called
Unibroue.  its a French Quebec thing...
L'Eau Benite    i dont really remember too much how it tasted, but i did LOVE it at the time.  its a golden ale and 7.7%.  good beer.

here is a link to BC liquor stores.  you can find a lot of different things there.  obviously tehy wont have everything, but they got a good selection.  im sure other provinces have sites like this, i just dont have a link handy...

im dieing to try out bowen islands stuff.  i love cream ales, and they got a hemp one...sounds interesting.  and if nothing else i would hope for a cool bottle.

Is Mill St. the one with Coffee Porter? I tried that and it was kinda weird...

Unibroue is great though, all the beers I've tried from them have been excellent, I really like Maudite and Fin du Monde, Raftman is pretty good. They have a few that are only available in Quebec as well.
