hi..bro
You should print some of those and send them to the FSRC.
I'm sending out a package of prints to them tomorrow.

Nieve question from a newbie. Do you always let them get that mature before harvesting? AFOAF just harvested but the caps were just starting to open. Is the potency as strong when waiting until they open like yours?

I always pick mine just as the cap starts to open. I just do it so that the shrooms don't drop spores all over my grow chamber. As far as a potency difference I do not know.

POTENCY is derived from available precurors, nutriants, nitrogen & amino acids in a substrate, which give the myc the ability to produce actives.
Good examples that demonstrate that fact are the various cake mix grows that lacked those very things (Uncle Ben's Refined Rice - for instance). Which result in fruits, but little or no active content.
IMHO, if fruits are grown on an optimal bulk substrate (compost, h/poo, zoodoo)with optimal nutriants, they become as potent as possible, no matter what size. After that, it is all about weight. You can gain as much as 15, possibly 20% more weight, by letting them fully mature.

Forgive me for not being able to readily recognize any particular strain, but what are they, is there a grow log for those? Tell me EVERYTHING!!!

I don't.
Some are a little overly mature in the picture...in my opinion.
If I'm printing spore prints...I wait til the cap just flattens out...and starts to drop spores.
If I'm just wanting fruit...I harvest them before the veil breaks. They look nicer dried...and you don't have a shit load of spores all over the place.

It is sort of a mystery strain, originated from a print sent to me from party hardy Aussie buddy who was in Sumatra during the Tsunami relief effort.
He said they were potent enough to disrobe your soul (in a good way), and called them "Malay Paddy Whackers".
They sort of look somewhere between Malabar & Orissa India, but who knows. John Allen suggests they may be a substrain from Malaysia, rather than Sumatra. As no cubes, are known to exist there.
Long story short, print was dirty. Went to PDA agar petri's, clean isolate to several more perti's. Colonized very rapidly, some wedges went to WBS jars, a few to WBS bags & the last slice to a liquid culture. All of which colonized rapidly.
WBS was spawned to several trays of weathered pasturized h/poo, once that colonized, was cased (verm/coir/peat), incubated until rhizo sprouted out evenly, then exposed to fruiting conditions, light 12/12, RH 85%+, 74/76 F, with 24 hour coolmist fresh air exchange. Pinned like a wheat feild & you see some of the results.
I did make 20 prints & have myc isolate in sterile water, in as many vacutainers.

I'm a closed cap man myself. Although I agree with Agar at the same time, closed caps are more tasty lookin! Know what I mean?
