The Jebus Dehydrator Tek v1.0 (NEW PICS ADDED)

I have worked hard over the past week to get these instructions completed. Thanks to the MANY members that showed interest.
The Jebus Dehydrator Tek v1.0
Overview
This is a simple, yet very effective way to dry small or large quantities of mushrooms. For about $15.00 (provided you already have a fan) you can build your own. This dehydrator uses air only to dry, which is the best, for heat only decreases the potency. It will dry a ? pound of fresh mushrooms in about 24 hours and makes the process easy and completely hassle free.
Shopping list
1. 1, 2?X 4? (lumber)
2. 1, 2?X 1? (lumber)
3. 4 ?L? brackets
4. Roll of window screen
5. Piece of ?? plywood
6. Fan with detachable front guard
7. 6-10 metal ties or pieces of wire
8. Two small hinges
Instructions
1. Cut two pieces of the 2?X4? 18? in length and two16? in length. Lay all four pieces on a flat surface to form a box. Use 3 inch screws and screw them together.(?hee, hee, I said screw?)
2. Now cut the 1? X 2?, Cut the same as above, 2 pieces 18? and 2 pieces 16? and lay all four on a flat surface, forming a box. Attach an L bracket to each of the four corners and secure with wood screws.
3. Attach one side of the screen to both of the boxes and secure with staples. Pull the screen until it is taut, secure with more staples. Continue to move around the box until both boxes are covered with screen and staples secure it around the perimeter. Cut off the excess.
4. Screw the two boxes together using the hinges. Forming a book.
5. Nail four feet on the corners. (Just use scrap 2 X 4 material). This step is a MUST! Without it the air has no place to go and drying will therefore be difficult, if not an impossibility.
6. Remove the front guard off the fan. Measure the diameter and then subtract an inch from the total and divide by 2. (Ex. Diameter 12 inches, minus 1 = 11, divided by 2 =5.5 inches.) Cut a Piece of plywood 18? X 18? and locate the center by drawing a line from opposite corners to form an ?X?. Attach a pencil to the end of a piece of string and cut the string to the diameter figured above. Hold one end of the string in the center of the ?X? and make a circle with the pencil. Cut out the circle using a jig saw.
7. Drill 6 holes around the outside of the circle as evenly spaced as possible.
8. Place the fan face down on the plywood and thread the wire threw the holes you just drilled and around the fan. Tighten the wire to secure the fan to the plywood.
Now place the fan on top of the screen and you are set to dry! Just place your shooms inside the box, turn on the fan and walk away.
* This is v1.0 of the Jebus Dehydrator Tek, please feel free to give feedback and suggestions. I will be adding more pics over the next few days, but I wanted to post it ASAP as I am very pleased with how it turned out and I hope some of you can put it to good use.

I will be posting more pics of my new and improved box. The base on the one shown here does not use the 2" X 4" lumber. The new one can hold MUCH more then the one shown here due to the increase in depth of the box.

Nice job, the best tool for the job is anyone that will get the job done. Can you build that to be stackable so you can add more layers?

Don't get me wrong, this is a really great idea, but wouldn't just using a dessicant be easier? Given I am a beginner, but from the reading I have done, that seems to be the best way.

I first started using air drying b/c I could not find any desicant. Now, I would never use it. I agree, building it takes a little effort, but I believe it is worth it so I will never have to buy anything to dry again or have to use chemicals, that in most cases end up in a land fill.
To be honest I am not familiar with dessicant either. For me, I found somthing that works great and hope that it can be of use to others.

A person has a good idea for this hobby, shares their knowledge with other people, to help them succeed. What happens, wannabees critize just to sound important. If your not going to help people, do not post.

If you're drying loads of shrooms you get thru a lot of dessicant and IME it takes longer. Fan drying followed by dessicant to finish it off is probably the best way.

mickmac, what makes you think I am a wannabe? I said I was new, I didn't say I haven't grown shrooms before. I wasn't critisizing the fan drying method, stupid, I was wanting more information from an obviously experienced grower. Passing on information and asking questions is what keeps this website alive...dumbass.

I was not meaning you Lucid420. You stated that you were new and you asked a question. I apologize if you took offence to my remark. If you read my fist post again you will see who I am referring to.( new clothes)

Are there any problems with the fan motor burning up?
I ask because ive went through 2 fans this summer from them falling over and burning the motor cause its so close to the ground. (i think it has to do with reverse air pressure, keeping the blades from spinning freely and the motor over working itself, but im not sure)
You approach the turnstiles and know that when
you get there you have to give the man two dollars
or he won't let you inside but when you get there
everything goes wrong.

No it has never bee an issue. That is why the four feet are attached. It allows for better drying and otherwise the air would have no where to go, therfore the motor would burn out.

Here are some additonal pictures. These are of the improved dehydrator that I re-built tonight. You will notice that the drying box is much deeper then the one shown in the pictures above. If you follow the instructins this is what you will end up with minus my little friends of course...
...and just a pic of some of the Austalian's I grow. I don't think this pic does them justice. I love these shrooms and just to give him a plug, I got them at www.sporelab.com

You'll have to forgive me mickmac. When I read your post, I was a bit intoxicated and I thought you were referring to me. Usually I try to refrain from name calling, it's so childish. Thanks for the great info Jebus.
