Hello everybody.
My friend has been very busy, as you can see from the first flush from two cases he made from 5 PF style cakes:
He's very proud of his babies. Anyway, all bragging aside :) my friend has these other 3 cakes he left as cakes. They're in a separate terrarium, they've flushed once, and haven't done anything for about 10-14 days. He's considering breaking them apart and casing them, but that might not necessarily mean more shroomies.
So, here's some questions:
1) Should he break the cakes down and case them?
2) If he cases them, can anyone suggest a site for a dung tek (they didn't have peat moss at the store tonight)
3) If he shouldn't case them, can anyone suggest a way to get these cakes to pin or are they finished?

1) wait a while, then if no fruiting case
2) wait for peatmoss to come, its better than dung for begginnners and dosent smell like, well shit
3) try coldshocking (put it in the fridge for 24 hours then put it back in the terrarium

1.) casing is nice, once you go there many dont go back. but an already-flushed cake may be less productive than a cake that has not already produced fruits. but thats not saying it wont...
2.) you can use dung either to spawn or to case. heres a casing tek for dung: 3m's dung tek. or use the cakes as spawn, crumbling them into a container of dung, mixing it and letting it totally colonize the dung. (like the bulk bins, db kits, etc.) dung- when properly prepared, shouldnt smell nasty. *shouldnt* ... b/c HQ's neevr personally tried it, many friends have and *swear* it doesnt smell... dunno. you could also case with a pure verm casing layer, or use coir if you could find it locally in a hydro shop.
3.) dunk tek (more info at mycotopia prolly), cold shocking (search here should provide results), and double-ended casing tek (find on pf's site) are 3 ways that people have used to *coax* the cakes to fruit. HQ hasnt had a problem with cakes not producing when she did cakes... but you have a very pretty flush there and theres nothing wrong with caking it (esp from your pics!) ::grin::

thanx BF . . . the weird thing is that all the cakes used in the casing are the same as the cakes not flushing now. at any rate, there's no rush to mess w/ dung, especially since it may be on par w/ verm. Just wondering whether the little guys are starting to run out of nutrients in the cakes at this point (about 6 weeks out).

dung is the happening thing now :) and i dont think can be compared as similar to verm... do a serch for some of 3m's posts and the db kits- only dung/castings seem to produce the real monsters. hear dung may increase potency as well. just havent had the opportunity yet to try... gonna wait to get some of dioze's poo when its available. no cows out here, or horses :)
