First time using rye grain(PICS)

Here is the rye before...

...and after incoculation.
Sorry, I did not see how bad the pic quality was until now....Anyway. I will be attempting to case this soon and I am considiering using:
1)Verm.
2)Manure
3)Straw
4)Compost
...and I am looking for any and all advice. I have bee doing cakes for a couple years and I am just starting to dable in casing. Any advice as to how to layer would be great (verm/rye/verm) or it you have better ideas that I and the group could benefit from I would appreciate it.

id either case with coir (coco fiber) or spawn with dung. well, HQ's been wanting to try 3m's dung tek too... but yeah- if youre gonna case it, use coir imo.

the whole bottom layer debate (should there be a bottom casing layer) is one thats been around for a while but i havent seen too many arguments about lately.

some say no bottom casing layer, as its superfluous. just lay the colonized substrate on the bottom of your casing container and cover with the proper casing material.

some say use a bottom casing layer (HQ and her jackal are in this category). it adds water to the substrate from the bottom, and it wicks up the metabolic waste of the substrate. the bottom casing layer has always been bone dry after the 1st flush of hers- to her that means the substrate used it. plus, the bottom layer can be rehydrated after flushes, so you dont have to try and get it al thru the top layer... but these are opinions of someone who likes it :) im sure theres more people who are quite more adamant why they dont like them (can be another place for contams to be introduced... etc)
