I'm really tired of the hipe people give this book. Yes, it does have one basic tech but most everythings based on the assumption you're doing agar, and only gives hints to any advanced techs. I thinks it's time he made an up to date version. Especially when it comes to terrarium setups. They've progressed quite a bit since '83

I agree that we deserve an updated edition. SOmeone should email him and ask him if he has plans to do so. Nevertheless, its still a complete work that will get someone from a-z.

The first book on the top of this post(Growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms) IS the updated edition of the "Mushroom cultivator" They are similar and there are updates on pausterization timing, growing temps etc.

The "update" was written 9 years after TMC

I don't think anyone should buy TMC anymore, the other has everything plus its updated. It's like the new MC in a way.

Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World
is another good book..it starts off with paul stamets telling a story about himself and how he came upon the mushroom...someshit like that....and it goes into shroom identification,habitat and strains ect...i haven't read the whole book yet but the begining was pretty damn good.

hallucinogens by random authors (all doctors though)

enlightening book, whoever compiled all the essays in it set aside ch.3 for a lecture from dr. hoffman thats simply amazing

it's not a cultivation guide, just an intro and some perspective on the "psychedelic society"

let me add:

"how to grow mushrooms the easy way" by Rush Wayne, who goes a step further in the use of h2o2 in mushroom cultivation, though i still haven't heard anyone who tried this method with cubies, and

"magic mushrooms around the world" by Jochen Gartz, a lot of history and pics and an interesting chapter about in-vitro cultivation.
