Cocoa Hulls as substrate

I am at my parents house without GGMM's nutritional reference list, so you'll have to forgive me for posting this. My parents use cocoa hulls as mulch. Could these work as a substitute for cottonseed hulls?

According to Penn State University, it is a normal substrate ingredient. I've never used it.
