cocoa bean hulls?
    #9687588 -

last night I found big bags of these at one of the big box hardware stores tucked way back in the garden section.. anyone have any experience with using them for a sub? ideas on what will enjoy them? headed to see what I can find out about them on the intarwebs but thought I'd get the best experience pool started on the questions first :mushroom2:

just about anything "can" be used for mushrooms, the real question is which ones will grow and fruit on it.  im guessing oysters should work.  reishi seems pretty hardy as well.  the main problem i see with them is if my memory serves right these hulls look like broke in half marbles.  in otherwords your going to have alot of empty airspace on the inside of these hulls which will be a problem.

so chances are for them to work you'll ether need to find a filler or smash them

I'd assumed that they would not work without additives, still looking for a local source of hardwood sawdust/chips so I might try straw and or composted manure with the cacao hulls as more of a way to make my substrates go farther. thought I'd ask and see if anyone had practical experience before I start experimenting is all
