 Jar Smell?

Ok, I have my jars that are colonizing slow (but i used pint jars and BRF+Verm) in a big tupperware thingie. Like I said, they are colonizing.. and very nicely I might add but when I open the tub to check em out this scent trickles out. It's not a bad smell. Kinda sweet and natural but I always read that you're not supposed to smell anything unless you put your nose up to it. I don't see any contams. It's B+ strain. Thanks in advance for your help.

A sweet smell isn't bad...in most cases. Is their any yellowing in your jars. Perhaps it's the plastic your tub is made of....what do i know. Afew times while my jars were col. I could smell a musty sweet aroma. I once read a post where the writer said he smelled a musty smell, but kinda like a forest without the pine...heh

every single time i innoculate jars i get the worst stench!! I too use brf and vermiculite.
I now have to spray the room with febreeze every so often, it smells like rotten something, and like you my jars colonize very slowly...the jars are placed in the closet at around 80 degrees...sometimes maybe a little higher, with tape over the innoculation wholes.
If i took the tape off would it colonize faster?? what about humidity? is that something to worry about while jars are in colonization?

I get the sweet smell u speak of out of some BRF Verm jars. I dont think mushrooms mind it to much cuz it seams they usually come out fine. Sometimes if the smell is crazy they will stop growing mycelium.

i get a sour smell evry time, but then i always seem to frig up water ratios because the jars are always falling all over the place in sterilization, even with added support.
remember a good air exchange is the key to controling contam, thats why i dont use jar lids, rather i use alluminum foil layered 3 times and fill the top with polyfill (aquarium wool)
i find that if the levels get too wet i can always dump out half the substrate and allow the remaining to colonize in open jar air with good exchange, doesnt contam either, even if i open the jar to inspect growth. and putting it into the space next to my waterbed bladder incubates it causing a fast colonization rate.
my advice, sterile polyfill filter. OR you can put activated charcoal between the polyfill and foil. this will give each jar its own environmental control and air filter. good luck
