jars smell funny, im scared 2 death

i innoculated my jars just 2 days ago, and when i smell through the hole in the lid it smells very weird, sort of like pickeled cabbage or something. please, please, please someone tell me thats just the top layer of vermiculite(maybe it got a little wet). oh and theres no growth or signs of contamination. i really hope this is normal, help me bretheren and sitheren please!

that has happed to a friend a couple of times. where the verm gets a lil wet. i guess it just depends how wet it is and how long it will take to dry. he lost some and saved some. try takeing the lid of for a day or so.

if you remove the lid(s) make sure you put it someplace reeeeeal clean or youll find some new green and grey bullshit that WILL scare you to death.

no it is a problem. but you can try to deal with it. like i said sometimes you can save them sometimes you can't

Get used to being scared to death. Contams are a part of the buisness. Just keep stuff clean. You will invariably lose some here and there.

i put some baking soda on the bottom of the box where my jars are incubating, and it killed the smell. so i guess everything is good, unless putting baking soda around the jars is not good.

Contaminates pop up here and there. Even when you get a rather good setup a few jars will be lost. Bad spores, bad luck, it just strikes. Sometimes it takes 12 jars at a time. Oh well, try again and succeed. It is the greatest feeling next to having human babies (atleast, untill you get used to it).

when I cook up my jars i just hope for atleast 1 to Make it to mutrity :) hehe so i am never desapointed :) hehe specially when none die to contams

Um, I don't think putting baking soda in the box will make your contam go away. You will probably see contam growth soon. Wet verm doesn't smell like pickled cabbage.
