well it is bad if you're SURE that it DISTINCTLY smells DIFFERENT than the others but since you got it by itself in its own terrarium, just let it grow and see if a contaminate does show itself. If it never does i still wouldn't recommend eating them if they still smell very different. You have to remember in a situation like this that tripping for four hours ain't worth dyin' for, especially when youu have 7 other cakes, good luck

Cy Coe, noone is going to die from eating a cake that smells funny. That particular jar probably had a bit to much moisture in it and basteria formed or you are smelling the metabolic waste of the mushroom mycelium. Either way now that it is out of the jar fruiting will go unhinhibated - maybe a bit delayed but it will still fruit and the mushrooms will be perfectly okay to eat. You will NOT die or even get sick!

Just watch it and since it is by itself you don't have to worry about it contaminating others. If it fruits you can wait till it's done then cut the cake in half to make sure nothing else is growing. If it looks good...enjoy...if not....chunk the shrooms and the cake.Hope I helped ------------------ ..... LEGALIZE .....

If you are using a poor-man's terrarium, the smell could be lingering odor from whatever juice was in the bottle before it became a shroom tank.

If it's the smell I'm guessing it is, they're fine.I just realized how useless my post was. Disregard. [This message has been edited by Krupa (edited July 23, 2000).]
