The cigarette addict believes in the illusory pleasure of smoking, when no such pleasure can exist from willfully sufficting yourself after a meal.

The relaity of the situation is that after you have eaten a meal your not satisfied like non-smokers are as you have a little naggin nicotine demon still left to feed.

If human beings were supposed to smoke, we would be born with chimneys growing out of our heads!

Sinbad it's true that a course of good food is greater then that cigarette. It is also true that buzz from the cigarette is more powerful than that meal and can spark thought and conversation just like the meal. A cigarette goes a long way.
A meal can go a long way.

meal = cigarette

Food is nessesary for ones survival a cigarette is not, therefore meal does not = cigarette!

Secondly the rush you get from a cigarette is the rush of posions entering your blood criculation and rushing to your head, why you find this enjoyable and thought provoking i have no idea!

Claiming it is a poison is somewhat misleading because everything (even water) has the potential to be toxic. Unless I'm mistaken, the buzz associated with tobacco is a result of nicotine increasing dopamine levels. Most folks know dopamine is a positive neurotranny (in most cases). Anyway, when we consume food, a similar thing happens. This is sometimes referred to as "reward circuitry." That's the addictive element. So...in a way, a meal does = a cigarette.

In regards to the idea that consuming certain things as morally wrong...wow, that has got to be one the biggest crocks of shit I've ever heard. Sorry, but the fact I read it in a drug related forum makes it even more laughable. Sorry for sounding so rude about it.

if humans were 'supposed' to use computers, we'd all have firewire cables leading from our butts.

if humans were 'supposed' to not smoke, then we'd never have thought of doing it.

hmm, indeed, if humans were 'supposed' to be 'enlightened', then we'd all be born that way.

I was a smoker for 7 years and know that demon well!

Are you sure it isnt how i have describe it? That little filthy demon that needs feeding for you to feel satisifed after a meal?

Re: Is this real tabacoo? [Re: Sinbad]

That demon is the smoker. Nicotine doesn't fiend for a smoke. The smoker fiends for a smoke because his brain has grown accustomed to its effect on dopamine. Dopamine is good, but like most things, too much is catabolic (unhealthy). As a metbolism/defense mechanism, the neurons producing dopamine decrease their efforts. And living day to day with low dopamine levels isn't easy. If you throw stress on top of that, dopamine levels are decreased further. So how do you fix this? Smoke more tobacco to raise the dopamine levels back up! But the more often a smoker uses this method to raise his dopamine levels, the less dopamine his neurons will produce. A similar (disturbing) effect occurs with SSRI medication as well, but the neurotranny involved is serotonin.

Now how do I tie this info into S&P? Oh, here we go...isn't it interesting how the balance of neurotrannies effect our outlook on life?

There is nothing more self-righteous than a nonsmoker extolling the evils of a smoker for smoking..

ohno, it's not healthy?  gee i'd never heard that.
gonna die you say?  what a dramatic change from my previous eventual ending!

all that aside, and just because I'm sure you all love to demonize tobacco and nicotine..  you know nicotine's actually being looked into for drugs to help combat schizophrenia, AD(H)D, Tourette's, Bipolar..  all kinds of things.
Because nicotine helps your brain.

here's a big honkin article

har har though it says at the end the guy'd be horrified if anyone used it to justify smoking  good thing that's not what i'm doing
just using it to try and justify NOT getting all preachy about cigarettes.
especially on a drug message board..  I bet, right now, some kid in ODD is asking about the best way to smoke some pills with tin foil and a pen..

Im not getting preachy about cigarettes, since when did stating the facts about an obviosly highly addcitive, extremely poisonous substance become preaching?

First i get the message that i cant talk about smoking becuase "i havent been their man" then i get told to "stop preaching" when i disclose that i have indeed benn their. Its like a lose lose situation.

Well, for one thing, you state that nicotine is a poison, which is factually wrong. To personalise it and to say it's a demon that forces you is a stretch, too, as the pshysical addiction is nil after three days without a cigarette. Like many other rituals (drinking coffee, daily exercise, etc), the habit you create is the most powerful component.

Secondly, smoke, like many other things humans cosume, contains some 200 different chemicals, many of which haven't been researched enough.
Tar, CO and the heat by itself are in my - medically untrained - opinion the most harmful. Nicotine is being looked into as a possible treatment for Parkinson's.

Moderation is key, as is the case with other possibly harmful consumer goods (high fat foods, candy, cell phones, high tension power cables, fossil fuel exhausts, etc). I doubt you'll die (from smoking) if you smoke one pipe of tobacco each sunday. You probably will if you smoke two packs of smokes each day.

Anyway, what's wrong with killing yourself? Everything you do will affect your life span, even breathing.
You're the only one who decides about your life, and you have no right to decide about another's life OR death.

Re: Is this real tabacoo? [Re: Alan Stone]

Is there actually a single study of the dangers of pure tobacco without the many cancerous additions?
I've never seen one.

Tobacco is a sacred plant, desecrated and soiled in cancerous additives by the evil industrial matrix-complexes...

Someone here in Norway tried to import ecologically grown tobacco for sale, without all the nastiness. However the governmental health care desided it was illegal; "Tobacco is not to be called ecological, thats an encouraging term. However, if we put poison in it, then we will scare off the lot"

This is also a war on drugs! Tobacco will soon be illegal, that's why they do anything to stop an ecological tobacco movement.

Hey, its even psychedelic:
taken from http://www.biopsychiatry.com/tobacco/

Tobacco contains the harmala alkaloids harman and norharman, and the closely related harmine and harmaline are known hallucinogens. The levels of harman and horharman in cigarette smoke are between forty and 100 times greater than in tobacco leaf, showing that the burning of the plant generates this dramatic increase. The effects of nicotine on the central nervous system are still far from being understood. The hallucinogenic effects of tobacco become far more explicable when it is borne in mind that the strains of tobacco smokes by the American Indians were far more potent than our commercially produced varieties.

So find a nice pice of land and grow your own!

Hehehe....

Anyways, in regards to smoking tobacco, if people are aware of all the dangers, including radioactivity, let them, it's their choice. If they're not smoking around you, who cares?

Personally, I loath cigarettes, the taste and smell bother me, and the buzz doesn't sit well with me, although a few puffs of shisha or a cigar are nice on rare occations.
