contam or invitro pinning (pics)
    #375068 - 08/20/01 07:21 AM (23 years, 1 month ago)

PF says "in less than a week to a few weeks after surface colonization of the cake, tiny white "pin" like structures begin to appear. This is called pinning. This is the beginning of the fruiting cycle. Soon after that, within the week, small round fungus growths appear that soon begin to turn yellow."
Is that what is happening here, or is this a contam issue?
Would you birth (or, case) the cakes, or let them sit awhile longer first?
Thanks

Could you get a close up pic?

From here, that looks like a contamination, or a really bad case of wet, yellow mycelium...

They don't look like pins to me. Could you post another picture? This time with some light on the subject?

I had a jar that looked like that one. It was contam'd and I had to toss it. Wait a couple of days and see if it spreads.

Oh boy ! I am probably a bit much of a newbie, but I would say that the yellow bits are a bit too yellow, and  large to be just normal water contam...BUT Don't take my word for it - is there someone more experienced here who could give their opinion?

When I birthed my jars, they were 100% after 10 days, so I left them in low light to try and pin invitro until day 18; but nothing much happened;  -think maybe I read somewhere that B+ doesn't do as well at this anyway.
But anyway, they were pretty well all white, with only very minimal yellow (which isn't noticeable in the pic):

bugger it, I'm sorry I can't be any more encouraging for you......  :frown:
Anyone else with more of an idea have an opinion??

Yeah, there is absolutely no bad smell. Somehow I don't think they are contams.
All 5 jars in this batch looked like that- don't know what strain- was from a wild spore print.
I cased 3 of them and put 2 in a terrarium as caked 2day. I'll post the results, if any other newbie like me cares.
