Ego Trancendance All Alone?
    #3678976 - 01/25/05 05:37 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

OK, so does anyone know if (of a way) to trancend your ego all by yourself without the help or influence of anyone else?

I am caught, half way. And I half-heartedly know what I missing. Some people decided it wasn't time for me to *click*... and that's their choice, but they've left me stranded.

Can mushrooms alone guide you through trancendance, or must there be a navigator?

Oh, and one more question: Is there anthing that can be done to limit or expunge negative thoughts/emotions/feelings, etc... coming from another person or a whole group of people trying to make your life... constricted... ?

Thanks in advance!

- Chris

are you asking about a way to transcend ego in your life and look at things from a different perspective?

"Can mushrooms alone guide you through trancendance, or must there be a navigator?"

No they can only point the general direction. Your heart is the only navigator.

Yes, you can do it alone.

If the external world is boxing you in, detatch yourself from it and leave. Nothing is more important than your journey.

I don't think anyone can help you transcend, or get enlightened, or what you wanna call it. only you can do it. that said, I don't know what I'm talking about

buddy i have never had a guide, and never knew to, i am not quite sure if i had ego loss but i suppose it is possible, i think if you insist on having a guide, your guide should allow you freedom, they arent there to control your experience, they are there to guide you and help you ground yourself if you go sideways, i have babysat twice now and both times had an ego death (in the group, not personnaly) which i think for myself is a great thing, it is vey satisfying, what i do is allow people to do thier thing, i just keep an eye on them, make sure they dont hurt themselves or anyone or thing else, if they start to cry i hug them and reassure them, but i would never stop an ego death, that would be interfearing with fate.

What if it's the internal world that's boxing you in and you just want out?

In Buddhism, those who attain enlightmenment in recluse and for their own benefit are called Solitary Realizers. Typically, Solitary Realizers follow the Theravada teachings. They are celebrated figures among both the Theravada and Mahayana schools, as attaining enlightenment in this way is said to be much more difficult than the Bodhisattva path.

Sometimes I think we may only fully transcend ego when we die.

Ego is key to survival.

I experienced ego death on shrooms once but within seconds I returned with an almost physical pain and the thought that even trieing to understand ego is a part of ego itself.

Any limitation can be galling -
Ego seems to be all about limitation

to effectively transcend ego, you must transcend being galled.
leave ego alone let it operate as the infrastructure it is meant to be.

The ego death experiences on shrooms etc are a kind of holiday or party (not always fun) lots to see when the system is partially shut down, but it is not truly "ego death" that is merely a term used in the lore.

Although - yes - I am referring to the death of the ego. I do not, at this point in my spirituality, understand whether or not that is a perminant loss. My understanding thus far is that the ego keeps you individualized which keeps us here altogether (yes, survival is a key role of the ego, as well!).

On the other hand, like I said before - I am in 'limbo'. I continuosly see what lies beyond the 'ego', nearly every moment of the day. But in the state, I am partially scared to leave the 'comfort' of ignorance. I am not unwilling, but apprehensive to drop the lying to myself and leave this false-sense of comfort I now see clearly. Unfortunately, it's the lying that pushes me forward because I see how this affects those around me.

Those who would rather I not leave my close-minded reality for a more 'open' experience... Ironically.

Sometimes it doesn't feel like a self-made prison any longer because I've escaped on numerous occations, only to be slammed back in by those around me. I feel I deserve this greater reality as I have brought myself there already and acknowledged it's existance openly.

I don't understand why some people just don't want me to experience life truthfully. And that is why I asked if I can continue this journey on my own, even though acknowledging that I'm already there and relieving myself of the lies just puts me in the position to be ignored and 'contained' by those around me.

I can escape to nature to open up... but it's returning back to society that kills me. And not by my choice.

you are in the process of knowing yourself.
that continues and expands.

you see some things you like.
you find out what you don't like.

then you learn what you are.
then you go back home and continue.

I know what you mean about society, lots of monks do go to the forest for a while. (thailand [and burma] are good for western monks)
