alkaloids = natural nitrogen-containing bases found in plants, fungi.

according to the international convention all alkaloids should end in "INE" (with rare exceptions), ie. tubocurarine, caffeine,
betaine, nicotine, pseudoephedrine, ergotamine, escopolamine, hyoscine, pilocarpine, hyoscyamine, atropine, morphine, psilocybine :wink:

note that cannabinoids are not alkaloids...

And what about the indole group tryptamine serotonin which to my knowledge is also an alkaloid?

In english I have only seen psilocybin called psilocybine in some posts by mjshroomer, but with his spelling it is impossible to tell if it was done on purpose or not :smirk:

Here's a little something that came up on Google (from Lycaeum's Sputnik Psilocybe Mushroom FAQ):

I have been here but a few short months but I have seen the generosity of the Admins and the Mods as well.  Geo has taken alot of time to explain things to me and Anno was especially cool for not perma banning my ass when I said he was not very cool ( I was being too touchy ... I think it's the Kush ). Ythan has replied to my rather random pm's and well .... I have not had much contact with other admins except Vamp and he emailed me a coupe of times ... by the way vamp I am still trying to figure out what to speak about the radio :lol: Sorry about that man. My apologizes. Any all I'm trying to say is that I for one need nothing from the Admins and would love to be able to give something to the site in return for the gratuity the admin and mods and people in general have shown me. I came here knowing only what I had researched on mushrooms for about 6 months and now know way more about all walks of life than I could have ever imagined. If there is anything I can do just let me know. I hope I speak for the majority of the site as well in saying all this ... If not well then damnit I speak for myself !!!!

serotonin can be written in both ways I think, and perhaps it falls into a grey area because the word 'alkaloid' are only refered to substances that have it's origin from plants, fungi.

And animals. Besides serotonin is also found in plants. Like bananas for example :smile: Check also these documents - Alkaloids I, Alkaloids II.

I updated several FAQ articles in a very journalistic manner. Any feedback?

Also, I'm ready for a bigger project. Assign me something - anything except web design and page design stuff. I'm not good at that nor am I patient enough for it.

Well....one thing you can do it:
go to www.shroomery.org
Then browse around.
If you find an error, either spelling or content or inactive links, report it in this forum, and we will fix it.

Also you can edit more of the wiki faq or add new ones.
