What can we give back to the Administrators???
    #3517491 - 12/18/04 05:26 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Alright, so I understand you guys get paid a little for this site thru advertising, the shroomery store, link referrals, and perhaps some other decent bonuses here and there. But I was thinking about the idea of checks and balances and how this could help to keep up the energy here at this site. Things really have a come quite a way in the past 3 years. Much of this is do to guys like Anno who are not just helpful but they have a nitch here. So anyway, I'm simply and innocently trying to find out if you admins could ask this community for one thing (or maybe two or three things) what would it be?

What would make you guys grin?>

:blowjob:

heh j/k

For me anyway, seeing the community thrive is its own reward. When that shit went down recently with KOTT and Shroomism I was incredibly touched how everyone came together. It makes me grin when I read a thought-provoking thread or see a member taking the time to show a newbie the ropes.

The admins of this site do a lot of work but for the most part it's a very satisfying experience since you get to see your efforts used and enjoyed by thousands of people. It can get frustrating when the board goes through one of its "down" cycles with lots of flames, complaints and inane posts, but I've been around long enough to know that these always pass. Overall the Shroomery attracts a great group of people and it's really an honor to serve you guys.

BTW, the admins don't get paid for their work... although we've been turning a profit for a while now we've chosen to funnel that money into upgrades, new features and a reserve fund for the site. We may get some kind of compensation eventually but I don't think that's anyone's main concern. If I could choose, I wouldn't want money - I'd rather see more people getting involved with contributing to the site by submitting teks and articles, verifying our information for accuracy, answering FAQs and that sort of thing.

Although I do need to upgrade my aging 1GHz computer so anyone that wants to send me new parts be my guest.

Anyway it was very thoughtful of you to ask. Here's a reciprocal question: if our users could have anything (or two or three) from the admins, what would it be?

Peace,

-Y

What specifically needs to be edited / reviewed for accuracy? I'll check over two things this evening if you want.

Well....one thing you can do it:
go to www.shroomery.org
Then browse around.
If you find an error, either spelling or content or inactive links, report it in this forum, and we will fix it.

Specifically mushroom/myco-related discussions that address all areas of their history, cultivation, use, and social/personal implications.

> All shroom related stuff ?

Also welcome imo are any articles relating to the counterculture, psychedelic use in general pertaining to the individual or various societies/the world climate, harm reduction information, and essentially anything that may fall into line with making for a more tolerant and accepting human experience.

Here's something I immediately noticed that has been a long, ongoing debate in this fungi kingdom: the spelling (and thus the pronunciation) of the words "psilocybin" and "psilocin". I trust you own a copy of the book by Hofmann, Shultz, Ratzch called "Plants of the Gods." These guys all say that psilocybin should end with an "e" making it psilocybine. As well with psilocine. This way the words are not mispronounced as they ALWAYS are by every one of us almost.
Mushroom John will probably clarify this issue too. I'm pretty sure I watched a video and heard him pronounce it: sil - ah - ci - bean and sil - o - seen .

The English dictionaries spell it the more common way we all spell it but in fact, this is a debate that has been long ignored by everyone including the famous and revered Paul Stamets.

I should get paid for typing phenomenal news-like info like this, don't u agree, Pookie?    :sun: :sun: :sun: :crazy2:

It's psilocybine and psilocine in dutch. Isn't that the Latin word for psilocybin and psilocin? Just a guess...

Before I edit something as drastic as I want to, let me first get the go-ahead.
On the FAQ article "Insane on Mushrooms" the first three paragraphs are spoken with a news reporter's voice who remain anonymous - he's just getting the facts out. Then....In the fourth paragraph we go from news to "I" this and "I" that - it becomes a personal commentary from a source/person who's name isn't attached. Let's kill the fourth paragraph, Anno.
