Why fan dry before dessicant?

Why do you need to fan dry before sealing with the dessicant?

Ok right now they are pretty dry.. the caps snap like crackers.. but the stems still bend. When i put em with the silica gel do I just put the gel on the bottom of a mixing bowl then put the shrooms on top of a wire mesh a few inches above the gel? or do i make another wire mesh to put the gel on so it's not on the bottom?

so you don't need the wire mesh space for water to collect on the bottom? In my head it goes (from top to bottom), air space, mushrooms, wire mesh, air space, silica, wire mesh, air space, then water.

There is no free water with silica gel.
From bottom to top:
silica gel(app 1 inch), wire mesh or a paper towel, shrooms.
The reasons to pree-dry are:
1.It takes much shorter in sum.
2. If you don?t preedry, you risk that the silica gel is saturated before the shrooms are dry and the shrooms begin to rot.
3. you don?t wan?t to "recharge" your silica gel too often, since a part is destroyed with every heating.

i dont know? ive never fanned it before i throw it in the dessisant chamber. it takes along time though.

i never fan, just put on a cake cooling rack to allow good air circulation... MOST water will leave tissue in about 2 days at room temp, THEN they go in the dessicant to "leach" the rest out...

last time straight to dessicant was attempted, all that resulted was one fucking huge clump of mycellium covered shrooms... hehe guess it will just keep growing in the high humidity...

also, it helps for long term storage if the "cracker" dry ones are stored in glass with a little dessicant of their own (like in vitamin bottles)
