How long in the dessicant chamber afther fan drying med size fruits for about 15hrs? :rolleyes:

One to two days. Like the man said, until they are cracker dry. Checking on them isn't going to hurt anything.

Yup I'm afraid I have to agree with hyper. the Potency only decreases when exposed to extreme heat. so fanning will do nothing but cool down.

to be technical, the heat doesn't break it down, it's just a catalist. oxidization is what breaks it down if i am not mistaken. technically. :tongue: :grin:

Is it true that zip lock freezer bags allow gas exchange, and thus fresh mushrooms in a plastic bag filled with say, butane, to exclude oxygen, would eventually begin to break down? I ask because in the UK possesion of fresh mushrooms isn't illegal, so storage of fresh mushrooms has obvious benefits.

if i remember correctly...the freon/co2/puerto storage tek is for dried shrooms...fresh mushrooms will only last a week at most if kept in the refrigerator...

Not sure where if this is in the right place , however I will give my smidgen of info . A few years ago in "Mother Earth News" I saw someone had made a homemade dehydrator . They made a square box of plywood with shelving strips to hang thier shelves off of . Had a door that opened to the front to allow easy access . They had a heating element at the bottom of the box composed of large outside xmas lights on a reostat switch . At the top of the box they had a squirrel cage fan also hooked to a reostat ( the fan turned so that it sucked instead of blew ) . I have planned to build such a box for morels but have not yet .

but they use heat :frown:

You can use heat as long as its below 95 degrees, which most dehydrators have a setting with that option.
