Dessicant vs. Fan Drying

My cat swears by fan drying, I on the other hand think that dessicant is the way too go. I have also read that using fan drying then dessicant is the best method. Opinions?

I like dessicant. I can just stick stuff in a tupperware container and forget about it for a week and I can come back to cracker dry stuff.
I can see a world where this is no poverty and no war, I can also see us attacking that world because they would never expect it.

Dude, go buy a cheap dehydrator from a *mart store, open er up and disconnect the heating element....dry shrooms in 2 days :) i'm tellin ya its the way to go, plus its perfect for large flushes, you can just stack the trays up and add more fruit...definately the way to go

Why not use both at the same time.
I have actully never produced fruits but,
I have contruction a dessictator to dry them that also uses a fan, (Yes, I was bored.) I used two different sized buckets with lids, make sure one bucket fits in side the other. (you can also use large tupperware or somthing). Now cut a large hole or the whole bottom of the smaller container off. And replace bottom with some kind of fine screen that will seperate friuts from dessicant and glue it on. Now you need a small but powerfull fan to mount on top of the smaller container's lid. I use a 12v compuer fan from radio shak. I think it is best to mount the fan so it is sucking air from the smaller container. To do this cut hole in lid, and glue fan over hole. now just put lid on small container, and place in larger container that already have some dessicant in it. (I put more dessicant around to fill in around the sides between the containers.) Now make a hole or find way to to run fan cord out of larger contain when the lid is on. thats it.
to use Put your friuts in smaller container and turn on fan.
this insures that air circulating over fruits is dry. This should be faster than fan or dessicant alone. ( If you dont get it, just try it, and it should make sence).

Wouldn't using a dessicant fan combo simutaneously deplete the purpose of using the dessicant. I mean why have the dessicant to suck up moisture if you could use the fan to more efficiently blow the moisture away. I guess my question is which one is more efficient at dehydrating the mushrooms. I would prefer not to use heat and isnt a dehrydrator with the heating element disconnected just a fan? Which one is quicker? Which method results in less bruising? My main goal would be to preserve as much of the potency as possible. Does anyone have any personal experience with these. Which has preoduced the best resulted for you, and have anyone tested different methods against eachother.

I guess i have to show a pic, for you to get a better idea. But it should in theory work better that either alone.
Cuz basicly the fan is sucking air around your friuts and then pushing it through the dessicant and back over friuts again and again.
the big problem though wa tring to find an AC adaptor to use to plug in the fan, So it is kinda complicated to make.
I think that disconnecting the heater element from a real dehydrator would be a good idea too, but i wouldnt know much about how a particual model works, Maybe the part that heat also is contributin alot to the drying. and it might not work too great with out it,
sorry im rambling, ill shut up

In front of a fan and then into the dessicant chamber is, in my opinion, is the best way to do it, if you want to spend a little more money, and your crop is large, the dehydrator idea is also a great idea, but again, after the dehydrator I would still put the fruits into the dessicant chamber.
Fan and then dess. chamber is the way the I do it, and it always worked nice quick for me. hope this helps.
