Rice and Beans substrate..?

Like if you soak some small to medium sized beans overnight and mix that with some cooked brown rice and sterilize and innoculate. Maybe it'd grow some robust protein-packed shrooms? Any thoughts?---D ---D ---D

Hey I would really love some feedback on this from you experienced growers. Beans plump up nice when you soak them overnight, maybe split peas or navy beans, Id imagine smaller beans would be easier to colonize. ---D ---D ---D ---D

Or make a bean flour and substitute for a part of brown rice if doing cakes.

Hi came across this thread wondering about beans as well. They have a lot of fiber in the witch means they should hold water very well. But also they say they can turn to mush over time. I have experimented and noticed they don't turn to mush at all! If you cook them correctly, keep them nice and firm. I saved beans for months and they never turned to mush so that is only a myth. I recently made some spawn I well update pictures with results. We well soon see how well beans work. I used 16 bean mix the mixture is 16 bean, oats, coir, spent coffee, and also I added a tablespoon of cane sugar. I noticed beans are low in carbs witch is why I added some extra. also I added the coir because some of the beans are large, so the coir well provide fibers for the mycellium to travel, from bean to bean. The reason for the coffee is so there well be more points of inoculation just encase this spawn needs to be shook. The reason I added oats, is because they get mushy and hold lots of water. I forgot to mention this mix also has some verm in it as well the oats seemed to stick to it, as well did the coir. Mix looks very nice nice and fluffy holds water extremely well!! My plan with this is to use it as spawn and bulk all in one. It is in a 2 pint Rubbermaid food storage container. Witch is 5 by 5 by 5 inch's the mix is ruffly 1 1/3 pints. I well be adding in a crushed tums as well as a buffer. If needed I well case with coir verm seems like a good idea because there well be some large beans showing threw on the top witch may effect the pin set. I well probably do a 1 inch casing, since the bulk is ruffly 3 1/2 inch's.....So pix well be coming soon some think I'm crazy but not a single experiment of mine has failed yet! And I have a 0% contamination rate! I well add the exact ratios of this mix if I am successful with this experiment....also as a note: I well be inoculating with 30 mil's of healthy LC. I well let this mix dry very well, so that when I add the 30 ml LC it well be perfectly hydrated to field capacity. The reason being mycellium is more resistant than spores and with that amount contamination dose not have a chance in hell!! This is how I do every thing 0% contamination rate and cuts time in half as well.

hahaha like u used leftovers? honestly im sure almost anything can be used as long as u take moisture and sterilization into consideration cuz everything will be different. i saw this bean post and immediatly thought some raw beans could be great mixed like he said with coir and coffee and suck. def gonna try, just because i have nothing better to do than see what shrooms will devour lol
have u seen how they eat through aluminum while its colonizing? crazy shit. doesnt just eat through it, they absorb metal. mycellium will survive on anything if conditions are right

i think the key is not cooking the beans. just soak, rinse really well and pc. seems like they should still be all intact. def gonna try it cuz the spanish isle has some cheap ass beans lol why not
