I've used "American Long-Grain EZ-cook Rice" whole many's a time with zero problems. I've never used organic, so can't make a comparison, but the way some people act it's like non-organic rice is POISON!! It is for human consumption after all....

>Are you using whole rice kernels or are you grinding them into flour? which bit of: "I've used "American Long-Grain EZ-cook Rice" whole" did you not understand?
>What is your substrate recipe? rice, lots of boiling water. boil until it is a bit harder than you would normally cook it for eating. pack in jars and sterilise 24h later.
if you're using the rice as cakes rather than casing it, then a bit of vermiculite helps pinning.

I suspect the fungicides on the non-organic rice are just on the outside of the kernel. Maybe it'd be beneficial to give the rice a light rinsing, let it dry thoroughly and then grind it up

I suspect that if you're buying rice from a shop, for food, and finding it coated in fungicides, you'd better find a different shop

As CdC said, the amounts of pesticides in anything sold for human or animal consumption are so minute that they don?t affect fungal growth, especially not the one of higher fungi, since the pesticides used in grain cultivation are mostly highly specialized herbicides and fungicides(for molds). The whole thing with organic/non organic(as goes for the mushroom cultivation) is an urban myth.

Hey there,
Not about non-organic but if you check in the organic section of the grocery store and see all the Bob's Red Mill bags, look for Brown Rice Flour and even better yet Eight Grain Wheatless Hot cereal ...man that stuff conlonize evenly and throughly.

I'm not sure.....but I don't think mycelium can really tell the difference in grain length.
