Humans need to feel like they have some sort of culture. Most people don't have much in the way of culture here in America. Bringing a tree into your home and making it pretty is a decent tradition. The trees are usually farm raised and I can't imagine that they have a very bad effect on the environment. They also drop them into the lakes around here to provide habitat for all sorts of beneficial organisms.

Where I live, christmas trees are usually sold on markets or similar
open places where they bring a whole bunch of real trees and people
just come and buy them.

It makes no difference if I buy the tree ot someone else because
it is allready cut. And if I don't buy it someone else will, because every christmas it is a race, and a lot of people need to find alternatives because there are no more trees left for sale.

By the way, I love the smell, there is nothing like it, reminds
me of toys, Star Wars action figures and plastic ships, man those were magical times.

If no one bought them they wouldn't have a market and wouldn't cut them down.
