Do endless parameters equal infinity?

Seriously though. By endless i mean the constant ability of parameters to expand for eternity, assuming of course that eternity itself is a timeless state. Pls feel free to discuss and be kind as i am new(relatively) to S & P :grin:

I'm not sure, but when I think of infinity I thing about something that never ends/will exist forever.
So I'd say the endlessness (is that even a word? :smirk: ) counts for infinity

I see parameters as being endlessly expandable. I don't know what sort of elaboration you are looking for.

You've been an absolute pleasure in S&P by the way! I havn't seen any OTD in you. I read there sometimes. I've seen things posted there that I will need therapy for. LOL

Ok, so...greater size or greater detail?

If the parameters are getting bigger, they can't be infinite. If they aren't infinite now, they will never BE infinite. You can't add your way to infinity...something is either infinite or finite, there is no in-between.

If the detail is infinite, then I would just call it "indiscrete". That is, there is no "smallest part" you can look at. You could look at smaller and smaller portions as long as you want and will never find the "smallest part".

Thanks for the warm welcome mang(yet another OTD colloquialism lol!) i think the whole meaning of parameters as opposed to perimiters is that they ARE flexible and subject to infinite change. I'm not really good with math stuff or intellectual things generally(i think parameters is a mathematical reference) but i did do GR8 at differential calculus w/e the fuck THAT means so i can't really comment on the inate qualities of parameters vs perimeters, but to ME perameters signify something that is always shifting and open to chaynge(yes: another bad allusion to "spare chaynge" from the "bathing at baxters" LP by the Jefferson Air-0-plane :grin: )

OK. So I am a bad amalgam of OTD meets the Pub meets S & P, what can i say? :wink:

Amazingly there is an answer to this.
If u study Multi variable calculus and infinite series, some
"converge" while others do not.
e.g. the series 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/16
basically Sum to infinity of 1/(x^2) where x is the the set of
all positive integers (i.e. an infinite set) converges to 2.
At least, if my memory is correct. Unfortunately I don't have
my calculus book on me but it's fascinating stuff that adding
and infinite amount of numbers may NOT yeild an infinitely
large number (because the numbers are getting smaller faster)
and so it may "converge" to a specific value !
other series, of course, may be infinite
1 + 2 + 3... or 1 + 2 + 4 + 16 are obvious ones.
But interestingly if u think of it this way it gives new meaning
to the phrase "there's always room for improvement"... yea there's
always room for improvement but there may be a limit, because the
improvement might be getting smaller so quickly that it's totally
accurate to say yea you'll always improve, BUT, you'll never get
beyond this point...BUT... u can always get closer to that point...
Gotta love Math...
