The bible speaks of the end of man not the end of the world.

If anyone is not smart enough to see that mankind is at the end of his ropes then they should just keep getting stoned.

I have studied the Bible very deeply. The book of Revelation is very strange and scary. But what to believe and not is up to the reader.

The world that I live in is on it's way to destruction. And I also firmly believe that I will see the start of the final end.

We are all in for a world of shit. The Polar caps will be melted 20 years from now. That alone is going to completely change everything wars or not.

Agreed.

IF YOU ARE INSULTED BY THE SUGGESTION OF GOD READ NO FURTHER (obviously not you FUCKNUCKLE)

Now what I don't understand is the arrogance one must have to think that humanity will not end? Have you noticed that the only intelligent creatures on earth that have been BLESSED with self-awareness, the ability to speak, conciousness, intelligence, and most importantly: FREE WILL die? Does this even make sense? You were created to live forever, but we chose to die spiritually and therfore were cursed to mortality so that we would NOT live in our wickedness forever. Death makes sense in a world where wickedness is despised by God so that he would not endure it forever. Also, you can't deny sinfulnes: look at the world today!

If man cannot save himself from even death then a larger power over man cannot be ignored. If we are so strong and will never fall prey to some ending then why can we not defeat even death? If we see death as a result of wickedness (a curse) then who is to say that the death of ALL wickedness once and for all is not at hand? The thought that we can keep improving and evolving ourselves when all we have today is a decaying society and world is ridiculous. We are doomed to either self-destruction or the wrath of God himself. And if God took the time to make us and give us free will and let us fall into death - then he will also redeem those who chose to love him and remove evil from the world.

If God invoked physical death to disallow wickedness against HIM forever in an individual then why would he not destroy ALL the wicked and leave only the righteous to reign with HIM forever?

The end of this fallen world makes sense to me!

Re: the four horsemen [Re: trendal]

to everyone:

firstly, i'd like to say i appreciate the response this thread has drawn. i believe most of it is wonderfully considered and valuable to the discussion.

before i post my return thoughts, i want to just clarify that i didn't mean my post as any sort of attention-mongering nihilistic nay-saying whistle-blowing. reading it over i can see how it might be read that way, so i apologize if it came off that way to any of you.

i know the four horsemen talk and whatnot might sound like me maybe trying to scare everyone with booegyman talk. but that was not my intention..

to summarize my original intention then: i raise the question (maybe now without all the drug-talk and "doomsday" bru-ha-ha-ha):

has anyone considered that like every other civilization before us, ours will inevitably come to a conclusion of sorts? if so, what are you thoughts about that? will it happen? MUST it happen? should it happen? is there anything that can be done so it won't happen?

trendal:

"I've chosen to be cautious from both angles: prepare myself quietly for a collapse of civilization, while still working to keep my life in THIS society (though, as the days pass, I lean more and more into preparation)."

that is a beautiful and insightful position. it was one i was hoping i would see raised, thank you.

you have taken the position to be aware and honest in your appraisal of the situation, but not panicked and desperate. this will allow you better to make the right decisions. bravo!

gettinjiggywithit:

i very much liked your synopsis of the "three days of darkness" -- good analogy for understanding there's sometimes some "necessary evil" to work through and come to terms with before the greater good can be understood and experienced.

or as the saying "it can't rain all the time" goes, it works the other way around -- it can't be sunny all the time either..

you are right that i posted this thread because of a "mess" i am in the exact moment of seeing, trying to make sense of, and (hopefully) eventually come to understand / accept it.

i believe you when you say you have done this yourself already because i see the wisdom of someone who has in your words.

deff:

i appreciate your position that we often make more importance out of things (especially ourselves) when perhaps in reality we are not actually that important or even that significant (much like an art in a very big ocean).

it is humbling and healthy to realize this. "having perspective" certainly emcompasses knowing your realistic place within a greater whole -- especially when you aren't the top of the ladder, but otherwise might think you are.

however.

that's not to be said that there are no such things as important goals for one's self.

perhaps it is worthy and important goal to work toward understanding just how insignificant one really is? then to work on getting used to the idea. then finally to come to terms with it...

it sounds as though you've got a sense of that already, which is great.

my caution is simply that a conclusion like, "in the end, we're all nothing much" may become a crutch that could support apathy toward having, practicing and achieving goals within your own life. in other words, it could be an excuse not to try.

in the end our bodies die and we may very well just rot. and that is fine! but in the meantime, perhaps there is still some work to be done?

gettinjiggywithit's forward:

there are some wonderful ideas contained within this, thank you so very much for sharing it!

i very much appreciate the implication that "the end" is a programmed idea of self-destruction. i would tend to agree with this. while just saying "i believe i can fly!!" doesn't necessarily mean you can actually fly, there IS something to be said for the power of self-fulfilling biases, and the power of the imagination to eventually manifest itself as reality.

i realize that sounds really hokey stated like that, so lemmie try again:

the author Robert Anton Wilson has a great idea that goes, "What the Thinker thinks, the Provers proves". there is another idea (not sure who to credit.. Leary?) that states, "Reality exists first in the imagination, then in will, then in reality"

again, that's part New Age mumbo-jumbo, but trim the fat on it and you have a solid idea: you can't consciously DO something unless you can conceptulize of it first. so in that sense, "imagining" something really IS the first step to making it actually happen.

the core message of the gettinjiggywithit's forward seems to be that imagining the idea of "the end" is the first step in bringing it about:

"they generate certain emotions and feelings that are designed to trigger mass despair and eventually, mass "suicide" as it were, as you as humans get ready to run your final "Armageddon scenarios"."

... so in short, we must each learn to not "feed" this self-defeating termination program, and as a result, take the first step in helping it NOT happen for real. your efforts instead 'tip the scales' back the other way and "vote for continuation" <-- great term for it.

in fairness, the end statements may be hard to swallow for some. i myself find them potentially acceptable, but also quite sugary... something i'd rather avoid in searching for my own motivation to make the change.

my recommendation in response is, don't concern yourself with the "good news" at the end, good or not. concern yourself with getting there first.

ld50negative1:

i have felt pulled recently to delve into topics that normally i would not, such as the Bible. my motivation seems not to be to find an 'answer' but more to just 'know the field' better for myself, so that i can be a bit more sensible in navigating through what more and more feels like choppy waters.

your encouragement is appreciated.

i also appreciate that it seems you have certainly given some consideration to the rather alarming fact that 'sumin's comin'. you are definitely aware that the writing's on the wall, the rent is up, the skies are stormy, etc... i think this awareness is very important -- i myself posted precisely because i, too, am wrestling with this newfound realization that, damn, the world is not as lollypops and bubblegum peachy-keen as i'd previously taken it for granted to be.

however.

in lui of what i just commented on above with gettinjiggywithit's forward, the question of a 'self-defeating attitude' has been put on the table.

(and sorry to single you out for this!)

but while very real problems may very well be on the horizon, how much of the following statements are coloured furthermore with a self-terminating bias?

-"Now what I don't understand is the arrogance one must have to think that humanity will not end?"
-"We are doomed to either self-destruction or the wrath of God himself."

i agree that self-destruction is on the table. the possibility is real, the probability at this point is probably "likely". no arguement there.

the question is, is being doomed the ONLY option?

if we are in a tail-spin, one option certainly IS to crash.
but is that the ONLY option?

could it be, as the forward proposes, a bit of a self-terminating assumption? (even if that outcome is "very likely")

Mushmonkey:

not to single you out either intentionally, but i was rather enjoying the serious nature of the thread thus far. i think that important topics must be discussed seriously, but discussing seriously is sometimes seen as a drag. even so, i'd hate to see an otherwise deep discussion shanghai'd for a fevered one about Mad Max and guns. can we keep it constructive?

those are my thoughts so far. thanks to everyone who has participated in this thread! for every point you ponder, you may very well be stepping closer to the renewal and change gettinjiggywithit's forward has proposed.

prettyboy.

Yeah I agree.

Ya know there has not been one organism that has made it from the first single celled life until to day. Except for the first forms of life.

Oh there are many long survivors. Sharks, gators, insects, molds, virus, etc....

But even these have only lasted just 25% or less of the time line. Man has only been around for a very short time. We cause the greatest impact on this planet. Do we really think we have been the only animal in the history of the planet to try and dominate it? Wrong!

All top dogs must fall. It has happened many many time since the beginning of life and it will happen many many more times after we are gone.

Mans visit to this planet is very short. We are a evolutionary failure

Yes.

Yes.

MUST it happen?
Probably.

should it happen?
That's much more of a judgement call. You can't be sure that the next phase will be better than right now. It could be far worse. So, then, should it get worse?

is there anything that can be done so it won't happen?
I highly doubt it.

who cares...honestly. It will happen, but life keeps on. I feel for that little ant on his leaf. I am watching him from my raft with the same wave behind us. I am not worried though because through all of the driftwood lying around I have made a formidable boat and feel any wave will just roal under me. If i get swallowed and drown that sucks but it is inevitable so i might as well enjoy the sunny day on the ocean.

Your friend is no Chritstian. The true Jesus lovers I know have the most guts I have ever seen. God or the bible never said that the world will end

The bible speaks of Mans evil destructive ways will end and a new Man will rise from the ashes of destruction.

Christians who preach that we are all going to die in some great explosion are very wrong.

Humanity is going to be fine. That is my hope. You will never hear me say that Mankind is doomed to death and destruction.

The bible does not say that. I don't believe it.

I do believe that Mankind is a failure as far as long term survival and unless we learn new habits we will fall by the wayside as many other species have.

But if we learn to overcome our selfish evil ways then we can live in a world of love and peace.

Mankind is in a need of very serious evolutionary change right now.
Or we will die

YES! ^^^ mans evil ways will lead to his destruction as we know it. His self destructive tendencies will self destruct, BUT a new and better man will rise from those ashes

i agree.

The serpent sheds its skin. The pheonix rises from the ash. The innocent baby comes into the world in a surge of blood and pain.

Death precedes birth. But birth will follow death

as for this

"has anyone given some thought to what our plan would actually be? "

i most definelty have. My plan is simple: to survive whatever comes, happy and secure, and be there to help in the building of a new and better society. the nice thing about my plan is, even if nothing happens at all when i expect it to, i will still have:

A nice beutifull self suffiecient secure wilderness cabin home.

This is key. A home away from the citys, with its own power, year round heating, its own food supply (and a LARGE stockpile) and all the other amenities that would help you survive.

I am developing some gorgeous land by fresh water, abundant in game fish deer birds etc, i am planting it with fruit trees and vegetable gardens, providing it with solar and possibly wind electricity, etc etc etc

No matter WHAT goes down, war, famine, demons rising from the sea, a nukleur strike, i would have a better chance of survival in that place than anywhere on earth almost.

My advise to those of you living in the states is to move. out of that country. things will get bad there quickly, and before you know it you may find yourself unable to cross borders even if you want to.

no one owns land, not me, not the governent. it is all gods land, or natures land, in a fundamental sense. in a less abstract sense, land is owned by whoever has the most legitimate paper claim to it. In the case of my land, we own it because we bought it and paid for it. and we own the deed. and we inhabit it, develop it and defend it.

Wrong............ you rent it. Taxes are rent and they can foreclose on you when ever they have a good reason. What happens when a person can not afford there taxes? The government forecloses just like a bank and then sells it to the highest bidder just like a bank.

In ever war ever fought there are people who lose their lands to the war effort.

It is the person with the biggest Army that truly owns the land.

That is the way it has always been

BIBLE'S 4 HORSEMEN ASK FOR DIRECTIONS IN PARIS
Book of Revelation's bad guys didn't know where the hell they were going, say cops!

PARIS - A funny thing happened on the way to Doomsday - the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse got lost and had to ask for directions!

That is the wild story of a French police officer who claims that one of the fearsome riders trotted up to him on the roadside and sheepishly asked, "Do you know the way to Rome?"

"It was the one on a red horse, holding a broad-sword. I guess that must be the Second Horseman, the War guy," highway patrolman Michel Clenard told a Paris newspaper.

"I was totally taken aback. I mean, these guys are supposed to be determining the fate of all mankind - but they seem to have no Earthly idea where they're going. And I didn't know whether to point them in the right direction or send them on a wild goose chase."

According to prophecies in the Holy Bible, a warning sign that the end of the world is near will be the arrival of four mysterious horsemen, representing the major calamities that will plague man in the last days - war, famine, pestilence and death (Rev. 6:2-8).

The uncanny encounter took place 13 miles outside Paris on the highway from Dijon. Officer Clenard was assisting a female motorist whose auto had broken down on the side of the road, when he first spotted the hooded horsemen and their giant steeds.

"They had stopped on the other side of the road and they were arguing over their map about which way to go," said Officer Clenard. "I was concerned because cars were whizzing by really fast and the horses seemed like they were getting anxious."

Officer Clenard said eventually one of the horsemen was sent over to his patrol car.

"The guy seemed reluctant and when he got close enough for me to recognize him from illustrations in my Bible, I understood why," he said. "The guys are supposed to be these big, bad harbingers of doom - asking for help must have been humiliating."

Officer Clenard said the Second Horseman spoke in an antiquated form of French.

"I advised him to keep his sword sheathed and I gave him directions, but I'm not sure he got them right," the cop said. "When the riders took off, two of them headed the wrong way!"
