BBB has pereskia cuttings
    #3324831 -

Bouncing Bear Botanicals is now selling Pereskia Grandifolia cuttings.
Three 8" cuttings for $9.00.
I've had trouble finding pereskiopsis cuttings before, but never again.  :sun:
edit///
These are suitable for peyote grafts right?

Seeds should work. From what I've read (if you want to graft) you can plant them around the same time as the scion plant.

A bigger stock plant is always bigger as well tho..

On the subject of grafting, does anyone else go to walmart and look through the cacti selection? I always see those red grafted cactus on small little stalks but theyre very delicate so people and shipping end up breaking hte graft, they GAVE me the stalks of the graft for free.. I just thought thatd be alittle quicker than seed.

you mean gymnocalycium? they're usually grafted to cereus I believe. I don't think these work well with lophophora, if thats the subject.

Yup pereskia is called the rose cactus. It actually has thorn like things while the pereskiopsis has very thin irritating hair like quills that come off easily and stick in your skin. they suck . Pereskiopsis is great for grafting. Not too sure that pereskia is. There was a thread a while back on it.

Pereskiopsis has thorns also. I'm not sure if the tiny break away thorns get big or if it grows separate large thorns but lower down on the plant as it gets bigger you have spines about 1" or longer and very sharp. I have an extra rooted cutting or two if anyone wants to start a garden. It grows fast as hell and in 6 months to a year you could have a garden full of them. They are great for grafting. Look up some of Una's old threads on the subject

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

Two different animals.

When I was looking into grafting, I looked into pereskia as an alternative. I was unable to find any reference to see if pereskia could be used as a grafting media. I personally would shy away from it.

Presently I am growing periskiopsis plants and have almost 100 growing. I'll be offering these up in the spring likely on e-bay.

I found a site of some guy who uses pereskia for grafting stock. A couple pictures of some lophos on there, looked pretty cool.

I'm sure pereskia gets the job done... but as good as periskiopsis? I guess I'll have to find out.  :yesnod:

I hear ya aelph . I too have a BUNCH going. Truthfully i didnt even mean to. Just happened when the pereskiopsis plants got taller than me. I hate getting those thin spines stuck in me though. I usually get around 20 spines in me at a time. Get the tweezer's out !!
Stoney, I thought that the pereskia plants have rose like thorns. As my friends mom has a rose cactus that looks similar to pereskiopsis but has true thorns like roses instead of spines. But i just was a site with pictures of pereskia grandiflora and it has spines similar to pereskiopsis.
Here is a pic link.

HAHAHA I just had to laugh!

Those spines are violent when they get going. It makes glochids from the opuntia seem friendly sometimes.

true true. The bad thing is when you get stuck and they break off so you cant see them at all but you sure feel them, and when you scrape the stuck area on something. OUCH. !! haha. But you gotta love pereskiopsis.

i tried pereskia. had a thread asking if it would work a month or so ago, didnt really figure it out. anyway my budy had one in his window so i tried san pedro seedlings on it, didnt work. very hard plant to deal with as well. carefull with teh spines, but none survivded that i tried (only tried 4). im currently experimenting with all my columnar or sim cacti to see what all works good for me.
