"People cannot show anything that THEY CLAIM simply because there is nothing to show"

a very vague statemt and therefore hard to refute.

Heres some things i claim, but you have to show yourself there validity

1. meditation can lead to deep relaxation, mental clarity, decreased stress and corespondingly better health, ecstatic experiences, and more calm and focus in daily life

2. lucid dreaming opens the gates of perception to such and extent that ANY perceptual experience (sex with whoever, seeing earth from above, flying or gliding, teleporting, manifesting objects, exploring landscapes of incredible bizareness and beauty etc) can be achieved

3. out of body experiences can be achieved, for enjoyment purposes.

These are 3 things that some skeptics might doubt, but i claim ARE true and if you wanted to you could achieve them. I cant 'show' you what these things are like, but i can tell you how to achieve them and you can see it yourself

sorry to jack your topic, ill leave now

(just saying not all spiritual claims are ego games or frauds, This shit is real and fun and i love it, so you should turn on)

Yes, my statement was vague. I was referring to people claiming (here and elsewhere) to show external manifestations of metaphysical phenomena, as internal states can only be indirectly monitored. Five years and hundreds of claims later there are zero successful displays.

Why anyone would want to defend such a poor record (cannot be any worse; BTW not necessarily referring to you) is beyond the scope of this poster to grok.

I was trained by the best (allegedly: SRF) and practiced faithfully for almost 10 years with no discernable positive results. Some have claimed that is not long enough, it is plenty long enough to at least get a glimpse, but noticed nothing. No cosmic states, no bliss, no elevation in mood, insights, better health nor any of the other supposed benefits. Either I am a blockhead, am already in a meditative state, practiced wrong or there is nothing to it.

it would be easy to call you a blockhead

but i think thats its all in your mind...

you can achieve those results by changing your diet if you think changing your diet will do it.

or if you think ritual castration will raise your mood... it probably will!

point stated, ill stop typing.

Not a genius at all. I am a student pure and simple. I do NOT believe in luck, streaks, hunches or other superstitious mumbo-jumbo. To be a great chess player requires much in-depth study without reliance on esoterica, but because of the random nature of cards, many think the normal hard work of understanding position, psychology, pot odds, implied odds, current odds, and noting the strengths and weakness of your opponents is somehow bypassed and that one can play merely by "feel".

Some believe that my approach takes the "fun" out of poker. If one defines fun as jokering another player when incorrectly calling against the odds, then that would be true. However, if one defines fun as cashing in chips, then the serious student of the game will beat all the hunch players in the long run. Do I win every session? No. The variance in a 10-handed game is extremely high, meaning you could make all the correct moves and still lose (short-term).

You (and similar respondents) make me laugh. You act AS IF I was stubborn and spent 30 minutes morning and night every day for ten years just to go, "Hey, I will show those metaphysical nuts how stupid this is!" To the contrary, I bought into the whole yoga scene heart and soul. I was a "believer". No skeptic could have maintained such a long-term regimen.

HEY SWAMI!

maybe i didnt make myself as clear as i should have...

its not the technique that creates those attrubutes you described, those things already exist in you.

in your case if you are doing all those techniques properly, and it doesnt work for you, THEN I BELIEVE YOU. i will not say (and wasnt trying to say) that you did them wrong, or that youre just out to disprove anothe "spiritual belief".

or anything of that sort!

im simply saying that for those people who claim that it does work (which isnt me) it was a placebo affect. it was all in their minds....

i see quite a few people doing meditation and doing all sorts of "esoteric" enlightening things, but my observations show me that most of them are still dicks. most of them are still not nice sometimes. all of them stil get angry at stupid things.

i will not discredit your experience swami, it is yours.

I like to think of the "60's" as the beggining... I think the "60's" happened so that it could influence people and show them what is possible...

The 60's we think of , or any other era so to speak is all created by the media.. Years are just numbers, in my life i havent noticed much difference from the 90's or the 2000's. ITs all the same, the media is what mazkes the difference, and if you dont pay attention to the media, you see it for what it truley is, and i believe the 60's was the spark for the flame, its not over, there are more and more "unplugged" people than ever. We like to think of the Grateful Dead or jimi hendrix as great music, but we forget that during their early years, they were looked at as "strange" (by the masses). This is because the mass of the poeple at the time had just came out of the "50's" Media wise.... And only a small percent of the people during that time actually appreciated the music.. Now in our current "era" Jimi hendrix is recognized as an Icon, and so is jerry garcia, The grateful deads fan base is bigger than it was during the 60's, and they are now not looked at as "strange" but as "great"......

The 60's has not ended , the media just chooses to focus on other things.

I like to think of it as the beginning of the american spiritual awakeking, and its still going on, what do you think this website is for ?

I admire your perspective/optimism man. As far as the media goes, i myself have not been an acive/interactive participant for well over 10 years. I guess the only point on which i could raise umbrage and beg to differ is the fact(IMO) that the world is just as fucked up(or more so) than it was B4 Ye Olde "hippie days" of so many years ago. Personally, i view those few years as a calm within the storm centre, but ultimately i don't feel/believe that there have been too many permanent/positive changes and/or evolutionary strides made as a result of that entire period based on what i see from the world today as it is....

Oh yes, the world is just as fucked up as it was, but thats not the point, the point is there are more of US out there than every, now were just waiting for the right time to come together, and it will happen.

In my heart of hearts i'd like to believe in that vison, experience however dictates that i must just wait and see. In short: The jury is still out as far as I am concerned on any longlasting after FX of that wacky time known as the 60's is concerned. For me the revolution continues on a microismic level irregardless of the progress/evolution of the species as a whole
