Amanita Muscaria var. Formosa questions

Me and a bud found a huge patch of these under some pine trees. The only questions I have are, are there any other amanita I could confuse these with ( these ones have tall skinny white stems that are fat and bulbous at the end and a yellowish orange top with white little fleshy spots. That and whats the best way to injest it I was gonna heat it in the oven at 170 with the gills dug out and eat the caps like 10 grams dry worth.

Why do people insist on poisoning themselves with this mushroom?
I'm going to lobby to get it taken out of the FAQs. Hardly anyone reports a "fun" or enjoyable experience from these mushrooms. They should be regarded as poisonous.

I'm no expert but on erowid.org they say that 5-20g is a dose that is most spoke of by users. The Amanita Muscaria sometimes has a yellow tan at the top of the cap so it may be likely it's what you have. If it completely red with white warts and the the 'egg' and all surely resemble amanita, due to i.d, then you definately have A. muscaria. I would say 10g would be around, or a few grams more than the recomended 1st time dose. Heating at 170 sounds good as it would change the ibotenic acid into musicimol, and I don't know what the ld 50 is, even erowid don't answer that. I would wait for someone more experienced to give you a better answer though.

The LD50 for Muscimol (in mice) is:
3.8 mg/kg s.c. 2.5 mg/kg i.p. 4.5 mg/kg i.v. 45 mg/kg orally
Now that you know that, how do you plan to use it? First off, the data are for mice, not humans. Second, do you have a means of assaying accurately how much Muscimol you have?
You gotta be pretty desperate to get high to be thinking seriously about Amanitas.

Gumby,
You're pretty accurate in saying these can be a drag. I think they have more of a responsibility to take these seriously and not just recreationally. God Bless You.

All mushrooms contain there own blend of poisoning, but the trip makes it worth it. I have eaten more than my share of amanitas in my life, and have experienced incredible visions. I feel the chance of puking it up is totally the awesome trips. Good luck, and start out slow

Ditto. I don't think anyone would munch down some amantias w/o doing their homework anyways. From what Humbolt what saying he ate amantias _25_ times this year already.

well lots do seem to munch tehm down with out research. someone here posted a site that showed hospital visits. pretty bad. im sure gumby or toxicman or someone has a bunch of websites saying how bad they are. i think the other concern would be miss identification. i personally really enjoy them in low doses, nver tried highish doses. every new patch i start out small and work my way up. i havnt gotten sick from them before, but it certainly is no normal "shroom" type trip. for the record, i am "desperate to trip" muscarias are the only fricken mushroom i can find.

From what I understand about the fly agaric is that people use it not only recreationally but spiritually. I agree with Phishgrrl.

Hi, all. I realize this is the "hunting forum" so I hope this is not off topic. I'm just responding to the comments suggesting that Amanita Muscaria is poison. It can be poison if not properly prepared, but that's like saying raw meat is poison. You gotta cook it.
Soma is not an easy ride. However, please don't stifle the Amanita discussion. Soma has been used for entheogenic reasons for probably as long as Psilocybe mushrooms. I have heard the word, and the word is, literally "God", while on Soma. The universe resonates with the word of God. Me, and thousands of others for thousands of years have used Soma as a sacrament.
I ate Amanita Muscaria, Formosa, about 25 times last year, some people eat it weekly, year-around. Soma can be mediocre, or it can be mind-blowing. It can give you a stomach ache, and it can give you the shakes. But it can also show you God.
There is plenty of information on the internet about this mushroom, preparation, drying, etc... and some excellent books available, such as: (1) The Sacred Secret: The Return of the Christ by Donald E. Teeter (available at www.amazon.com), (2) Soma Shamans by Hawk and Venus (available at redangels.yage.net), (3) Magic Mushrooms in Religion and Alchemy by Clark Heinrich (available at www.amazon.com), and (4) Mushrooms and Mankind, by James Arthur, (available at www.jamesarthur.net). All of these books are easily obtained, and should be read by anyone interested in Soma.
I realize that Amanita Muscaria is kind of the odd-God-out in the mushroom world, and Soma can slam anyone who takes it lightly. But it won't kill you if you stick with Muscaria and its varieties, and take it easy on the dose -- 10 grams dry is not for a first timer, and I personally would try 7 and then maybe 5 two hours later.
I am firmly convinced that Soma and the Psilocybe mushrooms are here for a reason and they interlock with our brain chemistry for a reason: so that God can experience the joy of being, through man.
(The writer ends the sermon and hobbles off the soapbox with a very sore knee, hoping that the carmel colored wavy-caps will soon fruit within the Redwood Empire).
