Very sad. It's always a sad thing to see people go to the other side. I wish him the best.

What's so sad about it? It was just his time. What more could he have done paralyzed? He did his entertaining and advocating. Is he not better off now that he returned to the ALL or went to heaven or whatever it is you belive in. Maybe he was reincarnated and isn't paralyzed anymore. No reason to be sad. Death is a part of life right?

I didn't read the cause of death. Did he undergo the experimental surgery and it failed
He's no longer paralysed where he is and thats cool. What was sad to me was the original accident that rendered him paralyzed.
The work he did to fund progressive research is cool though. I'm an advocate for stem cell research.
He seemed like a guy with a lot of heart and an inspiration to many. It is a tad sad to me to know he's no longer around to set an example.
When it first happened, he told his wife to just leave him, that it would be okay and he would understand. He told her, she wouldn't have much of a life with him and didn't want to be selfish or a burden to anyone. That was big of him. His wife would hear nothing of it. Goes to show what his life, even paralyzed, meant to her.

death is always a tragedy, and yet its also not... hard to realize that when your mom dies but its a natural ,beautifull, mercifull part of life.
But when my parents die i will cry and probably go insane

I found it sad because he was somebody that was making an impact by lobbying for stem cell research and serving as an inspiration to many handicapped people who may feel hopeless.

I am sick of this shit. Why are people so pissed at him for not being into this stuff before he got crippled? Use your brain, people, instead of trying to be cool by going against the status quo (which, currently, is praising reeve).
I think it's pretty ovbvious why he got into the field, and can you blame him? What would you have him do? I think it's pretty fucking petty to find reasons to hate someone who has been trying to do good in the world.
If you can honestly say that you would not have done the exact same thing in his position, then I invite you to explain why. There's a ton of people out there with money who aren't funding research.
While we're at it, lets get on Michael J Fox's case. What a fucking asshole, funding parkinson's research. How dare he. I mean, he has the disease, what kind of asshole tries to find a cure for a disease they have? Only a rich, arrogant fuck, obviously.

It's not that people are pissed at him, they just find it ridiculous that he get so much praise. I mean, he was paralyzed and decided to spend some of his fortunes funding research to cure it. What's to praise about that?

He made a considerable difference in the world for the better, and quite possibly could haved saved lives, even if they're lives of people not yet born who will be effected by the continuation of the research he supported. Perhaps he's not the most amazing person in the world, but I think anyone that makes such a difference in their life deserves some credit, regardless of their motives. And so, when I see people groaning about reeve and calling him an asshole (not necessarily done in this thread), thats what gets me. My first reply wasnt just a response to this thread, but to the general negative feelings I've seen expressed towards him, simply because some people think it's cool to have a "reason" to dislike someone most of the country likes.

He gave hope to those who were in his position. He carried on, and became strong. That is why he is praise worthy.

I think he deserves a lot of praise. So what if he didn't get into supporting this research until after he was paralyzed??? I could think of a thousand fucking things that I could help. Homelessness, Parkinsons, Cancer, AIDS, the hungry....but when it comes down to it I probably would only help these causes minimally. But if I ever found myself or a loved one in any of these positions it sure as fucking hell would make me want to help in any way possible. So don't rag on Christopher Reeve, I think he was a great soul.

Maybe that can't identify with his giving spirit.
I mean, a lot of people in his shoes, if they became paralysed from the neck down, would've become a miserable, demanding pain in the ass to be around and would have drowned themselves in self pity.
Maybe thats what those dissin on Reeve can relate too.
Maybe the people who have been dumping on him will end up with grandchildren paralysed in car accidents. It all evens out at some point.

BTW,
He died pretty broke. Robin Williams was paying his medical bills. Reeve mostly used his celebrity to raise awareness for stem cell reseach and to generate funding.

"It was also sad he only started lobying after he himself became handicapped."
He probably never gave it thought before...just like I never gave stem cell research thought befor I heard Reeves explain it.

I made my girlfriend abort just to have another embryo for stem-cell research. Trying to do my part BEFORE I get sick...
