Selflessness
    #7068275 - 06/20/07 01:07 AM (16 years, 7 months ago)

Is there such a thing?

I don't think I've ever done something completely for the sake of another person. I'm not saying I'm an especially selfish person, but even if I do something that seems to be for the sake of another, the main reason I do that is because I will feel better about myself. I believe that helping others creates good karma. Isn't the good karma the reason why we help others?

Then I think, if we are all one, then helping another person would directly be helping yourself. Does that mean there is such a thing as intent that is neither selfish or selfless?

a person who is selfless would never tell you, but then again, actions speak way louder than words.

I think putting someone else's priorities ahead of yours is considered selfless. But there is no way to do something that is "self-absent", because we have to motivate ourselves in order to do anything. Anytime you do something for someone else, your doing it because you want to. In order to want something, you have to know that you will get some sense of joy or fulfillment from it.
