Forgotten Karo jar...hmm.
    #3189490 - 09/28/04 01:40 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

So, I forgot a karo jar in the back of my cupboard. It's been something like, well, around 7-8 weeks since I innoculated it. Used some myc-covered rye berries, dipped in 35% h2o2 solution before dropping into the karo jar. My other karo jars have all sucked, but I'm thinking it was because I didn't let the myc generate enough to be virile enough to grow on grain. Anywho, so this jar has myc in it. But it also has these loogie looking chunks. I'm wondering if this is myc, or if it's a contam. It was floating before I shook up the jar. And it looks like it has a grey, irregular (Galaxy-form) core. But the wisps coming off this opaque core are white and look like myc. I don't know how opaque myc is in liquid cultures. Hmmm. I tried to get a pic but it's nearly impossible to show detail through the water with good lighting. Anyone seen anything like this? What's an easy way to check a karo culture? Pull a syringe-full out and inject it in a shot glass and smell it? Knock up a jar? Okay, thanks!

Try it in a jar. I don't know if you could smell. Desriptions are hard to id myc or contam especially in liquid...myc can look all sorts of wierd and much like a contam in karo water. Only one way to know for sure!
