anyone ever try sterilizing a syringe without PCing?

Has anyone ever sterilized a syringe with alcohol + h2o2?

I was thinking this, fill a clean syringe with alcohol let it sit for 1 min this should kill everything. Then empty and fill with 1.5% H202 this should get rid of the nasty alcohol. Now dump the h2o2 when your ready and fill with karo water. Would this work well?

Interesting that you should ask that, the other day i realized i would need a new sterile syringe(s), and didn't feel like pressure cooking them, so i sucked up 91% Isopropyl alcohol , spat it out, then sucked up H202 shook vigorously and spat it out. I then used liquid Inocculant on some rye jars. its been two days, a few jars so activity but here are some things that weirded me out. 1. my liquid myc has been in a fridge for a long time, maybe a month or longer and its gonna be 40 degrees in there, they did not Freeze but i feel like perhaps It did some damage to it since a lot of the jars aren't showing activity. Also when i had hte liquid inocculate in the syinge, i noticed a lot of tiny bubbles all over the place. I assume this was from H202 oxidizing(?) some of the myc but it definitely weirded me out.

More to the point though, while growth is limited in the jars i did, there are no contams present, suggesting that alcohol followed by h202 is a sufficient means of sterilizing, saving us time and gas money.

:-D Damn i feel smart, having helped someone who knows infinitely more than I.

Yep microwaved water. Draw up and purge water (right out of the microwave) several times works great!

I use boiled water, a'la Psilocybers syringe TEK, from the shroomery archives. :wink:

yeah, I boil the water for about 10 minutes then suck and purge a few times as per the syringe tek...

The microwave gets that water so molecularly hot much hotter than boiling water could ever get, this is what makes this tek work 100% of the time. FYI guys be very careful!

It doesn't get much easier than boiling water...and it works well.

I'd keep the chemicals out of my syringes, but that's just me.

Thats too weird you did that. Last wed. or thu. i did the exact same thing. EXACT. Rubbin alcohol 1st, i let it sit for a couple min.'s, then followed by drawing up h202. I then used some karo liquid that had been in the fridge for a few months actually several months. Anyway today, monday, i'm still yet to see ANY growth, mycelia or mold. I don't know what happend. I used some of this karo a few weeks ago and it worked fine. Now its nothing. If I was to have not sufficiently got out all the alcohol would it have killed my karo mycelia? I'm stumped. Any help would be great.

Just checking but do you guys still boil the syrines or just suck in/out superheated sterile water?
