Yeah, I've had that happen a couple of times. Assuming its not because of bacteria, it's probably because the grain is a bit dry.

Conserdering that Pan. Trops have an extremely weak mycelium network shaking the grain around may have done some serious damage to the fungus. It might come back or it might not.
I can see a world where this is no poverty and no war, I can also see us attacking that world because they would never expect it.

It's probably because of bacteria...Weak mycelium or not...after shaking them, grrowth will return if it's not contaminated. Have you tried sniffing at the jars? If they smell sour they are for sure contamiated.

I've had this problem with Pan. Trop. and Pan. Cyan. It has happened with jars of rye that were 80% colonized. They just never came back. My take on it is that they were too dry. They never had an off smell when I finally gave up and opened them. That is they smelled like Pan. mycellium which smells nothing like cub mycellium. I have yet to sucessfully fruit either one.

doesn't smell funky...I know that wet spot and it is not there...maybe to dry (100gRye/105g water..cubies like that mixture..should the rye be wetter for pans?)...
4 days know no sign of growth, but enough people have donated me some dspores, so I just start a new batch (I have 8 agar wedges 100% colonized..Im sure I'm getting some spawn soon)
thanx guys

1. I'm gonna make mycelium syringes (10 or so, a la old Lazlo, but with h2ho2 added)
2. I'm gonna spawn some new rye jars (5-6)
with the little I have left I will spawn some mushroom compost (professionell mushroom compost for champignions )
to see if it grwos through it (I'm prettty sure, this compost witll be used to innoculate some more compost..this will be cased very thin and fruited..
the syringes will be used to innoclute compost/dung/verm/ye/Ricceflour cakes(gotta find out a good mixture) and some rye jars...
the Rye jars will be spawned into the compost as well...
hope I'm gonna see fruits of that labour :).
