Screwed crop. Learn from my mistakes!

My whole crop is screwed. It's like a disgusting gallery of contaminants and pests. This is all in a mushroom magic greenhouse on wheatstraw. Cambodian strain. I'm going to list the mistakes made, for the hell of it. 1) Didn't weigh down and fully submerge all my wheatstraw in trashcan (hydrated lime/H2O2) pasteurization. 2) Grow room was not warm enough. Only 75 degs. most of the time. So it didn't colonize rapidly. 3) Didn't block light from grow room, and 'support' from mushroommagic told me to take the cover off the substrate after it had grown so slowly, exposing it to even more light.
4) So it begins pinning with nowhere near full colonization. 5) Oops. Too late to put on a casing layer. 6) Too high humidity. A few aborts. 7) Didn't pull out the aborts. Then the rest is not exactly 'fault', but rather, consequence. 8) There's a shitload of aborts now. 9) Cobweb mold
10) Black whisker mold
11) Some ink black slimey mold
12) Cecid flies
13) Even a tiny fucking SLUG!
Shit just went to hell. It's a shame because it was a relatively big crop. But hey, it's the first time. I don't think I commited wholesale stupidity.. although, you tell me. I think this disaster is more a cause of bad pasteurization and incomplete colonization. Oh well.

I know what you mean about putting a lot of time and effort into one 'basket' and losing it all.
I think the slug is absolute evidence of incomplete pasteurization, unless the room has slugs.
One bit of advice, give your growing area a big time cleaning. Flies are bad news.
The above information is complete fiction.

ouch, that really sucks. Wherever you where growing this at doesn't seam too clean itself if flies and slugs are getting into it... Advice: just try growing a smaller batch in your closet or under the window or something and after you know you're doing things sterile enough for it to grow in your house move it back to the greenhouse or wherever ; )

Ouch! Sorry to hear that man! PM me if you need a print or something to start back up. Try things on a smaller scale next time. Sorry bro, but when I read that you had a SLUG, I laughed! Just have never heard anything like that happening before. Time to clean, clean, clean.
Peace

Yeah, me too.... heard good and bad..... some say it is very trich freindly though.... they are right. freind tried it thinking the shit is wonderful, judging by the texture of it. What a sad loss..... only on the coir though. He told me that about the time primordia started forming, the molds kicked in.... that is very early for mold in imo. Guess he's just a little mad to watch all his efforts get flushed..... down the garbage disposal. Good ol' coco fiber. Looked promising though. He doesn't think he will be using it anymore.... when verm hold just as much water. Maybe some lime added? Sterilize it?

Yeah, maybe so.... but that is just speculation and rumor. I REALLY doubt any cocofiber producer will INTENTIONALY put trich spores in their coir... and others not. So I think the odds are about the same with any brand of coir from batch to batch. Good luck with it, as for 'my freinds', they would rather not take that risk anymore. But I would like to hear about others that have been using it successfully... most definatly cook before using it I would say. I think a casing layer of 50/50verm/castings will do nicely :)

For coir, that dry "bed-a-beast" type stuff has never done my monkey any wrong. It's dry and sterile when he buys it, then expands with water.

i went to the hydro store to ask about the coir bricks. They did not have trich infected bricks, but they were very knowledgeable about it and they sell little coir starter cubes that do have trich in them. It is used in the hydroponic industry to combat other fungi that cause root rot in plants. The trich itself is not harmful to roots, you (P.D.) just happened to get a block from a company that is geared towards plants roots and not casing layers. You could always get a brick online and moisten some in a bowl and cover w' saran, let incubate for a few weeks to test the stability before applying to a substrate. McMan has a good source for coir. peace

You fucked up so good you make me jealous.;)

i dont see why they wouldnt intentionaly put trychoderma in it..its not like the stuff was made especially for growin shrooms..it may be a beneficial thing for something else..mcman seems to be a strong believer in it..i know he knows what he is talkin about..

Use "Gro-Brick" brand. Some Coir has certain molds in it to combat other molds that are BAD if you are growing "plants" using hydroponics. Mold is somewhat common when using Hyrdoponics, due to all the moisture, so, some molds (like trych) combat other molds.
