ok im a new user to this forum. i found you from a friend. now i bought this mush kit,, http://www.growsystems.com/mushkits.asp i got it and everything. ok now when i got it it said to mix the straw with the spawn. i thought the spawn was the white stuff in a canister so i added it. now its 3 days later and i just found out the spawn was the grainy type stuff. well ok i read ahead and saw that when you mix the white stuff 'spores' into the soil you need to add 1 liter of water. so BAM i get a thought OH NO ITS RUINED gotta think fast, i deciced to take 1 litre of water add it to the straw put it in a bag swish it around for a while then extract the spore filled water and remix the straw with the spawn. i do so and the straw is now the spawning straw is in a warm place 85' F. in the dark for 12 days. i havnt added the spore water to the soil yet but i dont know if it will even work anymore. yes i did get the spores though because the white grains arent on the straw anymore and the water is a dark grey. will the spores start to grow in the water or mold in those 12 days?? is this all a loss? is there anything i can do to fix it?? should i just add the spore water and soil (mixed of course) to the straw and let it grow or am i just plain fucked and lost 200 bucks... thanks. BTW ANY HELP HAVING TO DO WITH SAVINF IT IS APPRECIATED.
I say mix the water and pray. You really have nothing to loose at this time. Next time do the PF tek and save yourself a ton of money. Here ya go. Tek.
What the PF tek looks like. You'll do tons of these.
good luck with the kit

"KIT INCLUDES: - Complete instructional video - A special mix of PH buffered Soil - Organic wheatstraw in a special cloth sack - Magic Mushroom spawning mycelium - Hard Plastic growing case - Hormones and Vitamins designed to maximize yield - Special disinfectant solution - Plastic mixing bag - Full written instructions"
Ok, let me explain some basic mushroom growing principles:
Mushrooms you harvest are the fruitbodies of mycelium. Mycelium grows on a substrate. In your case the substrate is straw (actually hay, from what I see on the pictures). The substrate can be inoculated either with spores(which you don?t have) or with mycelium on grain(which you have, this is called spawn). After the substrate is spawned, it colonizes, and after it?s colonized, it is cased with a casing material(this is the dark soil in the bag). The casing material has to be weted before use.
So....
You should have done: Soak the hay in hot(170?F)water for an hour, drain well, let cool. Then add the spawn(=grain) and mix it well. Then put in the container, cover the container with aluminium foil, then let it sit for 2 weeks untill it?s colonized. Then you should apply the moistened casing soil, cover with luminium foil again, let sit for a couple of days, then remove the aluminium foil and put osme translucent plastic over top. Fan 2-3 times a day. Everything above should be done in clean conditions with clean hands.
sounds like you mistook - Hormones and Vitamins designed to maximize yield for spores?Do you still have the grain spawn or have you mixed it?if you still have it all is not lost.
OH THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!! :D:D it is hormones LOL im a fucking moron,,, ut when it was in the straw the top layer made fungas... which i removed when i. i took the straw soaked it then boiled it for an extra 5 min ( i already pasturised it) to get rid of germs... then im going to use that one litre of water i soaked up fromt he thing with vitamins to mix with the soil. yay me.
i am just being an idiot and not realising all the info you guys are giving me. i just realised the info you gave me up top about my kit. im a moron. but can you answer me this. that nutriants stuff i screwed up with do i need that? and what is it? thanks alot!
The nutrients are just an added bonus and not needed imo. Start from scratch again and try to explain were you are now with all this ?as you lost me a bit.Have you still got the grain spawn?in the bag or what?just let me know what you have salvaged and what you have used, how youve used it and what you have lost? Cheers

and now i am at the cultivation stage. i am waiting for 2 weeks until its a big white clody mass. thats were i am in the stages. i just wanted to know if i should have air space inside the container. but that was answered. what i did was take the pasturised hay, and the spawn , mixed em. and now i am were i am.
so those nutriants are just a bonus? i dont NEED them? how much MORE yeild would i expect with it. if its a big difference then i would love to get some.
im not growing that way. if you read up above you would of gotten that. im doing spawning. id just like to know what i should use to increase yeild. thanks.
sure. i was just having a little joke - day off work today, and i'ma gonna spend it smoking, fiddling, tweaking, and tinkering
good luck in your grow, friend: this the best hobby i ever started. you'll have fun.
sounds like this one was one to learn from - and you did. salvage what you can, and better luck next time. far more fun to get some cheapo jars, cheapo rice flour and vermiculite, and go for it. $10 and you're off again!
you don't need a pressure cooker, just a deep saucepan. but you must get the patience thing (you can order it on 24h-anywhere.com for ?99 / $159) for some spores first.
when the hay and spawn (spawn being some kind of grain suitible for this procedure) are mixed in a moist and warm environment. they start to mold, this mold is mycelum. then once you see it caked in mycelum, you must put in some moist soil. the soil give the mycelum nutrients and building properties to build the structure of the mushroom and finish up the whole process.
no. when the (mouldy) spawn is mixed with the pastuerised or sterilised hay, the mould (mycelium) spreads to eat the hay. once it's eaten it all up, it's spawned.
then it can be covered with something to supply protection and moisture (among other benefits), and if you put it in a cooler, lighter, breezier environment for a couple of weeks, the mushrooms will be growing.
You should have done: Soak the hay in hot(170?F)water for an hour, drain well, let cool. Then add the spawn(=grain) and mix it well. DAMN, what the fuck kinda kit is that? I thought kits are for people too lazy to do all the work involved in a real tek. My first(and only) kit involved opening the box, and watching it grow. But kits in general are not good. They use up just as much of your money, for 1/10 the final product. Plus you cant just magically make another kit appear when the old one runs dry. You can just magically make some more cakes though if using a real tek......
lol you guys like rubbing it in dont you? n e hoo yea ive followed your guys directions and now its colonising. the once brown grain is now fluffy white. so i think it might be working. here is a pic i took yesturday. those white fluffy things used to be brown grainy shit remember. its 4 days old at this point.
this is what the grain used to look like. its the one with the purple zip tie.

This needs to be put in the cultivation hall of fame....Anno you are priceless i busted a gut when i saw your "patients" picture....good times good times. n e hoo .....

Quote: man this sucks i lost so much money :@ stupid kit
I don't think its the kit that's stupid...
Quote: nor do i have the time or patiance to order spores.
Maybe if you took the time and patients, as Anno put it, to look up the meaning of substrate, you'd avoided inserting your head inside your asshole. Just a thought.
