I was given a jar by a friend and it fruited well Upon my first attempt from scratch, I lost one jar to contams and the rest were a success. I cased them and had cubies growing off the casings for atleat a month.

my first attempt was with the myco bag. I was not patient(still the same way) and didn't know about this forum. Disaster in a bag. got more spores and am having success to date.

My friend's first try was 8 1/2 pint, PF Tek jars. She followed instructions EXACTLY, including the use of a PC, and was anal about cleanliness. She went through several bottles of Lysol spray and Isopropyl alcohol.
All were fruited as cakes and gave her about 13 dried grams of Equadors on first flush. After first flush, cakes were dunked in spring water and then flashed dunked in bleach as a precaution a la Hippie. She is waiting on second flush now.
One mycobag produced about 6.5g dry on it's first flush of B+. She is waiting on second flush now.
Lessons she learned:
1. Spray Lysol all over the room before you do anything related to the mushies, including fanning the terrarium. Clean work surfaces with bleach solution.
2. Wash hands, repeat, repeat. Spray alcohol on hands, wear a face mask. Maybe overkill, but she had no contams on her first attempt. PC is worth it's price.
3. Your cakes may appear to have various hues to them after birthing especially if you are viewing them under artifical light. Blues, light yellows, brown (from verm), etc. They are not neccessarily contams. She has heard that if you take a paper towel (and wet with H2O2) and wipe a color spot and it DOES NOT come off on the towel then it is probably not a contam.
4. Have patience. Her mycobag took 6- 7 weeks from start to first flush and her jars took 4-5 weeks. Resist the urge to screw with them! She had to strap herself down from checking on her babies every two minutes!

I am also growing shrooms for the first time(innoculated them 6/15) and having read numerous teks, FAQ's, etc. I had gotten the impression that each 1/2pint jar would yield around 3.5-5grams. However, after reading this thread it appears that that number is closer to 2-3grams. I'm aware that dunking usually leads to a greater turnout but I'm just wondering on average how many grams do you people get per flush. For example, I have 12 1/2pint jars going, so should I expect 20, 40, 60(!) grams?

Ummmm, if someone could respond it would be of much help and greatly appreciated. I just went through the Shroomery's entire FAQ as well as grooming www.fanaticus.com without finding a approximation. As well, I went through numerous posts in the Mush Pic area and I saw some growths as much as 6-8g's dry per flush. Hate to be an annoyance, but it'd help me out.

Saddly, my first four attempts were complete failures. The first one was doomed from the start due to a lack of education on my part (I was using tap water, non-organic rye flour, course vermiculite, no air holes in the lid, no steralization, etc) Needless to say I was a bit upset about wasting time/money so I went back through everything I could get my hands on and took notes as I went. When I finally thought I was ready I tried again - another failure. I went back through all my notes and doubled checked everything. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong though, so I decided to make up a whole bunch of jars using different substrate mixes (with different types of organic grains/flours, different brands of water, different water levels, etc) I thought for sure that I'd stumble upon *something* that would work...but alas another failure. After that I was heart-broken. I just couldn't image why so many other people were getting results and I wasn't. I knew I was missing something, I just couldn't put my finger on it. So reluctantly I tried one 'last' time. This time though I purposely screwed up on a bunch on stuff in a vain attempt to force contamination. I thought that if I could at least get something to start growing then I'd know I was on the right track. Unfortunately though nothing happened...absolutely nothing at all. My jars sat around for months without the slightest change, and eventually dried up. I couldn't take it any more, I just couldn't stand watching myself bust my ass and get absolutely nothing in return. So I did the only thing I could do...I gave up. I let go of all hopes I ever had of one day growing my own shrooms and accepted the fact that I'd be haggling with crooked dealers for the rest of my life.
Then one day I got bored as all hell and found myself aimlessly wandering the net. Somehow or another I found my way to a shroom site I hadn't been to before, and just like that I found the answer I had been looking for all along. The problem I was having wasn't due to what I was using as a substrate, or what temperature I had my jars innoculating at, or anything else like that...the problem was with my steralization technique. You see, I didn't have a pressure cooker so I had been using the ol boiling pot of water method. The method itself wasn't the problem though, it was how I was doing it. I had my jars sitting in the bottom of the pot with maybe a half inch or so of water in it - and the temperature all the way up, as high as it would go. I had been boiling the fuck out of my substrate for 45min at a time, effectively cooking the crap out of it. So to remedy this I used another pot of mine that had a steaming dish with it (with water in the bottom and my jars elevated above it) and viola success! The jars colonized as if by magic, the mushrooms grew just like they were supposed to, and I ended up with a pretty descent yield (certainly not the best yeild I've ever had...but definately nothing to scoff at)

Yeah, they say when boiling jars you should put the jars directly on the bottom of the pan. You can use dish towels at the bottom and put the jars on top of the towls so you don't cook your substrate...

first time i grew i used the shrooms wizard kit.i got two trays full of green mold and cobweb mold. fuckin 80$ straight down the drain. now im trying the myco bags. i got one myco bag about to fruit 2 that i just started and 3 magic bags that might work(the grain fell out when shipping so there was only a little bit) umm so yea dont use kits. kits suck monkey balls. im done!

you cant verify through a computer that those mushrooms evencontain drug so therefore she didnt incriminate anybody but she at risk forthem (the narcS) to have something to work with
